Anyone with a telescope who's planning to observe the giant planet?

Caught it in december with the telescope at ISRO.
attached is the image. not very great, cos we had problems with the tracking as seen by the trails in the image of the moons.

Good enough. A lot of people wouldn't have seen an image like this. What do the numbers stand for?

Jupiter and its Galiliean moons are visible even through binoculars.
I could clearly see 3 of its moons through my 10x50 binoculars (Io was too close to Jupiter to resolve).

How do you identify the Galilean satellites among themselves? I'm curious to know if it is visually possible to id them without any aids.

Size and distance, I suppose.

the numbers just indicate intensity. the colors are false colors indicative of how bright the source is.
the right most color has the highest intensity, and the left most the lowest (on the color-bar below likeĀ http://www.mathworks.in/help/matlab/ref/colorbar.html). given that we had a 16 bit readout, the max counts we can get is 65536 per pixel. jupiter's intensity here is abouts 7k cts at the peak pixels.
