Hello all

A group of amateur astronomy enthusiasts of IISc intends to start an Astronomy Club at the campus. The club intends to provide all interested members of IISc an opportunity for hands on astronomical observations, interactions and workshops at an amateur level. As a broad outline, the prospective activities of the club would be:

* Star gazing sessions within campus as well as around Bangalore.
* Special Observations during celestial events like eclipses, transits, comets, meteor showers etc.
* Public lectures by professional astronomers and visiting professors.
* Visits to nearby observatories through active collaborations with Institutes like the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, etc.

* Publication of activities, news articles and reviews in the form of a quarterly magazine/e-magazine.
* Outreach program for school children.

The proposed activities are tentative and depend upon the active participation of the coveted IISc community, at the levels of both leadership and volunteering.

Also, the club would try to collaborate with other such organisations like the Jawahar Lal Nehru Planetarium, Bangalore Astronomical Society and the Astronomy club at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. In addition to the above, other ideas are welcome from all interested people.

All those interested, kindly fill in the following Google form:

Students who have been members of other astronomy clubs and all interested faculty are strongly requested to join and give us your valuable ideas.

The club intends to organise a General Body Meeting (GBM) in the first week of February, to discuss further plan of action.

Regards
