The Indian Ocean is best here. If you are not a diver, then go North to where
you can snorkel on shallow reefs, just don't do it in the protected conservation
areas.

Once again, the Indian Ocean is hard to beat. If you don't want to use 'live'
stuff, which needs changing frequently, make up your own mix, any salt water
tropical aquarium fact book will have the correct formula, else buy it ready
made, there is a monster shop on Albany Highway just South of where it crosses
.. can't remember the name of the freeway...quite far South, anyway, maybe 4 or
5 km from the causeway

as per the original request

I didn't realise you were specifying saltwater species so no I can't.

I do know that many species of Saltwater fish live in Esturies and
Rivers at some stage of their life though.

Dave I think you misunderstood what I was saying, I was asking if anyone
knew where to get the marine fish as well as the salt water that they
swim in.

I think people are misunderstanding what you are asking.
You want to keep marine fish in a tank? What type of fish are you talking
about? Do you mean tropical fish? Goldfish?
People associate marine fish as being Snapper, or Blowfish, or Yellowtail
etc.

Anyways, I used to keep tropical fish, but I'd just get them from the
store closest to where I lived. It's a Bird/Fish place on Welshpool road,
right at the bottom of the Hill towards Lesmurdie/Kalamunda.
One other place that sells fish/aquariums is a pet shop in Belmont Forum.

Ok. I see I need to do some education for all the non-fishy types who
insist on replying to a thread they don't know much about.

In the fish world (as in those fish we keep in tanks) there are
generally 3 types.

Goldfish, you know the ones that everyone owns as a child and then
illegally flushes down the toilet when they start floating upside down.

Tropical Fish, this term generally refers to any fresh water tropical
fish. Basically fish that live in goldfish water but need a heater.

Marine, this term refers to saltwater fish including snapper, yellowtail
etc whatever takes your fancy they also include corals and stuff like
that. If you want to see a marine tank go to Redheads (the downstairs
bar) and you'll see one. When it comes to marine tanks you need to buy
the saltwater that the fish swim in. you can't just go grab a couple of
bucket fulls out of the ocean, I don't think your all blind to concept
of polution, So you buy the water generally from the aquarium shop
where you also buy the fish and the corals.

One other point you should all note is that almost all the fish you buy
at the pet shop are actually shipped over from the eastern states
because no one here breeds them. When it comes to marine fish and
corals they are actually farmed from places on the reef (yes, like the
great barrier).

So to make my request really really clear to all those people who really
don't have to know My boyfriend is send his marine fish home from sydney
and so I have to set up a holding tank for them here until his tank
gets shipped over (no you cant just ship the tank over with the fish in
it) and so I was asking if anyone knew where to get the water from since
I havent dealt with marine fish over here before and wasn't sure where
to get it.

I hope the situation is clearer to you all now and you'll stop trying to
turn this into one of the threads that Anthony mentioned.

Thankyou

Alison.

Well not many people keep marine fish, and judging by the thread so far,
no one can help.
All I can suggest is phoning a pet shop that sells tropical fish and
seeing if they can help. If they are a good shop, then they should be
able to give you some info on marine fish. They are usually pretty
knowledgable.
Look in the yellow pages under "Pet Shops".

Specifically, you might like to try Marine West in
1 Walker Place,
Gosnells.
PH: 9398 3127.

I think they might even rent out aquariums, which might be useful in your
situation, but I'm not 100% on that (I've never done business with them).

Hope that helps a bit more :)

Jason.
