As Britain exits the EU, it has made clear that its relationship with India is an extremely important one in the post-Brexit world. India is the fourth largest investor in the UK, and the UK is the largest G20 investor in India. Theresa May made India her first visit outside the EU after taking over as Prime minister. 2017 has been celebrated as the UK-India Year of Culture. The close relationship between the two countries has the media closely following this dynamic. What will Brexit Britain’s relationship with India look like? What will it concede to get a deal? Will it still stay a gateway for India to Europe? Are there any clear opportunities that arise in the aftermath of Brexit?

Profiles
Ambassador Dinesh Patnaik
H.E. Ambassador Dinesh Patnaik is a career diplomat of the Indian Foreign Service with experience of over 25 years in a variety of interesting and challenging assignments.
From 1998 to 2000, he served at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi as Under Secretary charged with Europe West countries and also as Officer on Special Duty in the External Publicity Division.
From 2000 to 2002, Ambassador Patnaik was posted as the First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Beijing, China and headed the Commercial Wing.
From 2003 to 2005, he was posted as Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi overseeing India’s relations with African countries. From 2007 to 2009, he served as Director (UNES)/Joint Secretary (UNES) overseeing works relating to UN.
Ambassador Patnaik served as the Deputy Chief of Mission/Deputy Permanent Representative at the Indian Embassy in Vienna from 2009 to 2012.He was India’s Ambassador to Cambodia from 2012 to 2015.Till recently, he was India’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco before assuming charge as DHC, London.
Ambassador Patnaik holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kolkata, in addition to Master’s degree in Advanced International Studies from the University of Vienna and Certificate in International Studies from the Diplomatic Academy, Vienna.
Lord Jitesh Gadhia
Lord Jitesh Gadhia is a British investment banker, businessman and member of the House of Lords.
Lord Gadhia has over 25 years’ investment banking experience, having held senior positions at Blackstone, Barclays Capital, ABN AMRO and Baring Brothers. He played a important role in connecting emerging market companies with developed markets, especially in developing countries like India, China, and Brazil. He has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of BGL Group Limited since July 2016.
Lord Gadhia was also was appointed by HM Treasury to the Board of UK Financial Investments in 2014, and has worked with the government to review different financial policy proposals put forward.
Lord Gadhia has provided significant input on strengthening UK-India relations, and has been associated with some of the largest investments between UK and India. He has accompanied delegations to India with several prime ministers, and was a key figure in Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's historic visit to UK in November 2015.
Lord Gadhia graduated with a degree in Economics from Cambridge University and has completed a Sloan Fellowship at the London Business School.
Nikhil Rathi
Nikhil was appointed CEO of London Stock Exchange plc subsidiary in September 2015. He also has LSEG’s responsibility for International Development.
Nikhil joined LSEG from the UK Treasury, where he held a number of senior positions over an eleven-year period. Most recently he was Director of the Financial Services Group, representing the UK Government’s financial services interests in the EU and internationally. He served as the UK representative on the EU Financial Services Committee. Prior to that, he was Head of the Financial Stability unit, overseeing a number of the UK’s financial stability interventions during the crisis. Nikhil also served as Private Secretary to the UK Prime Minister for three years from 2005 to 2008.
Rajesh Agarwal
Rajesh Agrawal is a British Indian entrepreneur, philanthropist and currently serving as Deputy Mayor of London for Business.
Rajesh founded RationalFX in 2005, and Xendpay in 2014, both companies utilising technology to reduce the cost of international money transfer for businesses and individuals.
Rajesh is passionate about promoting entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for young people. He was appointed Chair of Oxfam’s Enterprise Development Programme in 2015 and has been a Patron of the Prince’s Trust for many years.
In July 2008, Rajesh was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce. In 2011 he was honoured by Asian Who's Who for Asian Leadership As Young Entrepreneur. In the same year, he was presented Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the UK Parliament by Baroness Boothroyd at the Public & Political Life Awards 2011.

Dr Mohan Kaul
A champion of international trade, investment and emerging markets, Dr Mohan Kaul is an influential, well-connected & recognised policy adviser, business leader, social entrepreneur, development specialist and academician.
Dr Mohan Kaul has been appointed as Vice Chair and member of the board of Directors of Indo UK Institute of Health. Dr Kaul is President of Indian Professionals Forum setup as a non-profit think tank for diaspora as a fount for insightful policy ideas and community leadership.
Dr Kaul was the founder Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) on its establishment by the Commonwealth Heads of Government in Edinburgh in October 1997, a position he held until 31st March 2012 when he took over as Chairman of the council.
Over the past 30 years, he has built an enviable rapport with Presidents and Heads of Governments across continents He has led over 50 high-level initiatives and Forums, involving Heads of Government, Senior Ministers and top Business Leaders, in a number of countries. He was also a member on a number of boards and consultant to many leading public and private sector firms.
Dr Kaul has a PhD in Management Science from the University of Paris – Sorbonne. He is the author of a number of publications. He was also conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Letters by Cape Breton University Canada in November 2007. Dr Kaul was a professor for several years and later Dean at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
