Questions about Universal Viewer

Hi,

A few questions regarding Universal Viewer:
- is it possible to load more than one manifest in it, in order to compare two images next to each other, and if so how?

- is it possible to change the style of it, for example to match the colour of the links in it with the ones of the website in which it is embedded, and if so how?

Hi Vin,

I have loaded 2 manifests into the Universal Viewer we're using at the Willamette University Library. You could try adapting this to your own instance, and someone else can probably explain it better, but in our instance, we put in the two manifests separated by a comma. I highlighted the manifests for the 2 different images in different colors for clarity.

Hi Sarah,

Looking at the URL, is that a Mirador instance rather than a Universal Viewer one?

Vin, back in the distant past when I was the product owner for UV at the British Library, we looked into side-by-side display. Our use cases were replicating the functions of very old 'Treasures' sites that let you compare different Shakespearean folios, and displaying musical scores in partbooks, so that pages for different instruments could be turned in sync. However, we didn't have the resources to implement side-by-side viewing, in part because it was hard to justify the investment when Mirador already had that functionality and our build was coming to an end.

That said, the BL now has a permanent UV team and the UV community is looking afresh at requirements, so it might be in scope again at some point.

Hi Mia,

That would be marvellous, because I think the UV is a nicer and more user friendly IIIF viewer than Mirador.

And when the BL is going to work on this, can I point its team to a tiny little other matter? I have found out that one can easily adapt the style of the UV using CSS overrides, when it's going to be embedded in a website with a specific colour scheme. However that doesn't work for one item: the active link of a manifest when it is choosen from a list of manifests. This one still remains #10819a (RGB: 16, 129, 154) and apparently can't be changed no matter how one tries (either via CSS or Javascript overrides).

Vin,

Could you open an issue in the Universal Viewer GitHub (https://github.com/UniversalViewer/universalviewer/issues) to track your problem with overriding that one color? Might be helpful if you could share some example CSS that is not working. That might help facilitate a solution (and make sure we don’t lose track of the request).
