Zooming Out, A Look at IIIF and Wikimedia

Dear IIIF Community, 

We're pleased to announce the release of Zooming Out, A Look at IIIF and Wikimedia, a whitepaper examining the connections between the IIIF standard and community and the larger work of Wikimedia. 

Last year, the Consortium engaged Jake Orlowitz of WikiBlueprint to investigate the history of our communities' shared values and engagement, surface priorities for each, and raise potential opportunities for integration. This whitepaper is the result of his work.

Dear IIIF Community,

I must commend the paper and the ideas on: 

Zooming out: Can we integrate IIIF and Wikimedia?

The content is rich with insightful information on Wikimedia and IIIF together. The two share some characteristics but differ sharply in some areas too, as noted.

I want to say that if IIIF can integrate Wikimedia, it will be in areas that are in sync with Wikimedia. Just like the GLAM, the awareness will be created and the volunteers taught on the technicalities of IIIF to enable uploads and the creative commons license.

Wikimedia will definitely give IIIF more visibility and view of its pages. It will then create more spaces for many institutions to learn more and join IIIF.
