Join us for a special IIIF Maps Community Call on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, featuring an #AskMeAnything (#AMA) with Bert Spaan and Jules Schoonman of Allmaps.org!
Curious about Allmaps? Whether you've been using it for years or are just hearing about it for the first time, Allmaps.org is an open-source platform that makes it easy to georeference, explore, and share digitized maps from IIIF collections. Join us to meet the people behind the project, learn about the new IIIF–Allmaps Partnership, see what's coming next, and bring your questions for an open community conversation.
In particular, we welcome attendance by technical staff from our IIIF-Allmaps Partnership institutions, or those interested in the program.
We'll begin with Jonathan Manton, who will provide an overview of the newly announced IIIF–Allmaps Partnership, including why the partnership was formed, how it is funded, and how the Advisory Board will help guide its future. Following that, Bert Spaan and Jules Schoonman will discuss the Allmaps roadmap and answer questions from the IIIF community, partners, implementers, developers and anyone interested in the future of georeferenced maps in IIIF.
We'll also discuss reviving the IIIF Maps Technical Specification Group (TSG) to continue work on projection support within the Georeference Extension, building on the work completed during the original Maps TSG.
Please feel encouraged to add agenda items or questions to the meeting notes before the call.
