Hi all --

See below for notice of a conference being held at Stanford in December on AI for libraries, archives and museums -- given the prevalence of related topics and conversations at our IIIF Göttingen meeting, this is potentially of interest to folks on this list.

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to seeing many of you in Ann Arbor for the IIIF Working Meeting next week, and have a great weekend --

Josh

Register today for Fantastic Futures 2019, the 2nd International Conference on AI for Libraries, Archives, and Museums December 4, 5, and 6, 2019 at Stanford University. Participate in a global discussion on how we can put AI to work to transform and elevate our services beyond 20th-century modalities.

  • Meet people who are putting this technology to work already.
  • Learn about AI techniques and implementations.
  • Help build a community of design and practice.
December 4: Plenary Sessions and Reception
The keynote addresses will cut through the hype around AI to address the important role that libraries, archives, and museums will play in practical and ethical approaches to the technology. There will be demonstrations of current AI-related projects across libraries, archives, and museums as well as work being done to make the technology and training more affordable and accessible. In addition, there will be discussions addressing core concerns of data privacy and a future of AI-generated content.

December 5: Workshops for everyone
There will be hands-on workshops by experts from libraries, archives, and museums on working with text, images, audio/video, and historical maps. There is also a session oriented to administration and project management that addresses the challenges and opportunities of implementation.

December 6: Unconference community-defined program
Don't miss the unconference, an open program for Fantastic Futures Conference participants to form working groups, present works-in-progress, and more. This is an opportunity to put lessons learned in the previous two days to work, build community, and forge new directions.

Visit the conference website for more details at https://fantasticfutures.stanford.edu or go directly to registration at https://fantasticfutures2019.eventbrite.com.
