HE...@lists.info.usaid.govHi everyone,
The International Development Innovation Network (IDIN), which is a Higher Education Solutions Network (HESN) Development Lab led by MIT, will be supporting two summits and applications are now open for both! Please read below and encourage any creative, innovative, unique people you know to apply. If you have any questions, please contact Sher Vogel (
vog...@mit.edu).
1. Rethink Relief
Rethink Relief is an intense two-week hands-on design workshop dedicated to creating technologies for humanitarian relief that specifically address the gap between short-term relief and long-term sustainable development. This year's Rethink Relief will be hosted in Pader, Uganda on May 25-June 7, 2014 and is being organized by a diverse group of organizers from all over the globe and a variety of disciplines. Participant applications are now open and will be due February 15, 2014. For more details, check out the Rethink Relief website (
http://www.rethinkrelief.com/wordpress/?page_id=891) or email organizers directly at
in...@rethinkrelief.com.
2. IDDS 2014
The International Development Design Summit is an intense, month-long hands-on design experience that brings together people from all over the world to co-create technologies and enterprises that improve the lives of people living in poverty. This year's IDDS will be hosted by a group of Tanzanian organizers in Arusha, Tanzania from July 7-August 9, 2014. Participant applications are now open (
http://iddsummit.org/apply) and will be due February 10, 2014. Paper applications are attached and are also available in Swahili, upon request. For more details, check out the IDDS website or email the organizers directly at
idds-tanz...@mit.edu.
Additionally, any HESN Labs who are interested in discussing projects they have been working on in the agriculture/energy/East Africa space are encouraged to contact Sher Vogel (
vog...@mit.edu).
Both summits are programs of the International Development Innovation Network (IDIN), a consortium comprising MIT, Olin College of Engineering, Colorado State University, University California in Davis, KNUST in Ghana, USP in Brazil, and NTBC in Zambia. IDIN is funded through USAID's Higher Education Solutions Network (HESN) that supports leading universities to catalyze the development and application of innovative science, technology, and engineering approaches and tools to solve some of the world's most challenging development problems.
