Persuade us with an essay about how you would use a $5,000 grant to
improve achievement, attentiveness, and attendance in your classroom –
starting with breakfast, the most important meal of any student’s day.
Essays should be between 300-500 words, and will also include details
about your plan, budget and timeline as well as evidence of faculty
approval. Read the official rules.

1. We have created a garden club with a teacher advisor - they are
currently working on building a vegetable garden
2. 1 eagle scout project completed - recycling/gardening shed
3. 1 eagle scout project in process - green house
4. 2 eagle scout projects in planning phases - garden drip irrigation,
garden fencing and benches
5. have buy-in from an AP Biology teacher to study the life cycle of the
plants in the garden
6. working with Inka.fm to build vertical garden with renewable energy
power station
7. culinary foods program interested in participating
8. special education program already have a garden and want to
participate in expanding their responsibilities to have more visibility
on campus
8. service learning program building an educational garden with outdoor
learning classroom
9. applied for Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant to incorporate chicken
coop into outdoor learning classroom, and use eggs in culinary foods
program and/or nearby farmer's market
10. green advisory of students have written grants in the past and have
helped fund the recycling shed eagle project, and will help fund garden
maintenance
11. school has partnered with coalition known as LEAF (Local Ecology and
Agriculture in Fremont) non-profit who are interested in building a
community garden, and have master gardeners who can help our school's
gardening program as it develops
12. health classes wrote letters to congress recently to promote the
Slow Food USA Movement, asking congress to pass legislation to increase
funding to school breakfast/lunch programs for healthier, less processed
food options
13. Food, Inc viewing in health classes
14. school won title "America's Greenest School" and won a hybrid plugin
electric school bus
15. school being profiled in Ladies Magazine this summer for being a
model green school in the USA
