Feast of St. Vincent de Paul

Greetings Friends,

Next weekend and the following weekend include great events for young adults - we hope that you can come and bring along a friend to be introduced to worshiping Jesus at the Traditional Latin Mass.  See below to learn more about our Mass & Barbecue in Plymouth and our Mass & Volleyball Tournament in Lakeport.

Thank you to everyone who made June's Tridentine week such a series of great gatherings - to Canon Huberfeld for coming in from Wausau, WI; to Chant at Res for beautifully assisting the Mass; to Rita and Regina for so wonderfully organizing the swing dance afterward!  (Pictures)

God bless,
Paul

Our Lady of Good Counsel, Plymouth - Solemnity of St. Anne

Friday, July 26, 2013
Confessions: 6:15 p.m.
Rosary: 6:30 p.m.
Mass: 7:00 p.m.
Free Barbecue (donations accepted) to follow.  BYOB.

We are looking to merit the Archbishop's Year of Faith indulgence, while visiting this pilgrimage church.  Check out the description letter pdf, here.

A couple young ladies have volunteered to provide childcare during the evening, but the parish would like us to have one adult (VIRTUS certified and background checked) to oversee the effort.  We'd love to offer this service to our married young adult members.  Do you know anyone from OLGC that can lead this? - Please have them email Paul!

Please send fb-invites to any young adults that you know in western Wayne County and the surrounding region.

Juventutem at World Youth Day

Bishop Fernando Rifan - Antônio de Castro Mayer's reconciled successor in Campos, Brazil - will serve as a sort of host for Juventutem activities at World Youth Day Rio.

Most activities are expected to be in Portuguese and Latin.

Those who use Facebook may want to head over to these related "Facebook events" from Juventutem Niterói:
"Extraordinary WYD with the Apostolic Administration" - for the whole week, perhaps.
"Solemn Pontifical Mass in the Extraordinary Form during WYD" - Wednesday, July 24th

See also the Facebook listings of Missa Tridentina no Rio de Janeiro RJ, apparently edited by the folks at Euntes Docete:

Mass & Lake Day: Volleyball Tournament

On Friday and Saturday, August 2-3, Juventutem Michigan returns to Lakeport and the parish of our clerical guide, Fr. Lee Acervo.  Please join us.  Photos from last year can be viewed here.  We already know of carpools that will be available from Ann Arbor, metro Detroit, and Romeo.  If you are looking for a ride, let us know.  Guys - we could use a few more fellows to serve the Mass, etc.

Friday night - Facebook - arrival and camping at St. Edward.  Thank you to Gayle for organizing.

Saturday - Facebook - 8:00 a.m. Mass
followed by free breakfast (KofC will accept donations),
followed by volleyball tournament ($5 per head, recommended donation - for refs, expenses, etc.: rules will be enforced),
and beachside BBQ (please bring meat to share or, according to last name: A-F - Salad; G-J - Vegetable; K-N - Appetizer or Snack; O-S - Starch: Potato Chips, Mac & Cheese, Pasta, etc.; T-Z - Dessert)

We're looking to borrow another Spectrum2000 volleyball net or equivalent.  If you know someone who has one, please send us their contact info and we're glad to beg :)

Pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Cape

Juventutem Michigan will again this year coordinate a contingent to attend the Marie Reine pilgrimage northeast of Montreal.  Last year's JM attendees found it to be spiritually enriching, refreshing and enlivening to soul, mind, and body, profoundly in keeping with a vision fully realized of the human person, a marvelous public witness, and a rollicking good time.  Photos from last year can be seen here.

The pilgrimage takes place from Saturday to Monday of Labor Day week-end.  Approximate cost for transport and pilgrimage registration is $150 with scholarships available for those in need.  For further information contact Adam Larson: alar...@gmail.com

FIJ Dues
We're continuing to collect 2013-2014 international dues.  We encourage members of Juventutem decide whether to make or renew their commitments to the FIJ.  Please review the six commitments.  If you are in Michigan and will make the commitments for the next twelve months, please let us know.  If you would like to send your monetary contribution through Juventutem Michigan, please click on the PayPal link on our page and donate $20 - all excess beyond the 10€ to Bern will be used to support our regular monthly expenses.

Pray for Thomas Peters
Thom Peters - a friend of many Juventutem Michigan participants - was badly injured in a swimming accident this week.  Please check out the post on Ed Peters' blog and offer up some prayers for Thom, his wife, and his recovery.

Tridentine Mass on Catholic Television Network of Detroit
CTND, a broadcast network somewhat available in southeast Michigan, has added a Tridentine Mass to their Sunday afternoon programming (pdf) - every week from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
If you ever get a chance to tune in, please send CTND your feedback - ct...@aod.org

FSSP Anniversary
Yesterday, July 18, 2013, was the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (Latin initials: FSSP) - Happy Birthday to that marvelous Fraternity!
