Quaids Aug 11 speech to be included in school curriculum

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday decided to include Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s speech of Aug 11, 1947 in the curriculum of classes eight to 10.

Senate body calls for review of NAB’s ‘plea bargain’ law

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Committee of the Whole (where the entire house converts itself into a committee) on Monday severely criticised the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) that provides a choice of ‘plea bargain’ to offenders accused of corruption or misuse of authority.

Consultation calls for implementing electoral laws

LAHORE: Participants in a consultation unanimously called for implementation of electoral laws to help build legitimacy of elected governments and trust of the voters in the election process.It was sixth in a series of consultations held by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

Justice and the judge

The prevalent system of justice in Pakistan has failed to deliver results time and time again. Very few people are able to afford the time and money needed to counter the frustrating delays, prohibitive costs and grave risks that come with each court case. As a result, the current system ends up aiding the oppressor rather than the oppressed. The beneficiaries range from the offenders, policemen, lawyers and members of the lower judiciary.

NAB seeks report over regularisation process

Islamabad - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has sought a report from the Capital Development Authority over initiating a process for regularisation of 32 officers who were illegally appointed in the CDA on daily wage basis in 2012,

Court stays sacking of Pida employees

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court yesterday stayed the termination of 160 employees of Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (Pida) and adjourned further hearing after the winter vacation.

CDA chief grilled over illegal constructions

ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary committee on Tuesday came down hard on Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Maroof Afzal over the authority’s failure in stopping corruption as well as the construction of illegal buildings and land grabbing.

Contempt plea filed against govt for not using Urdu as official language

ISLAMABAD: A lawyer on whose petition the Supreme Court handed down a judgement requiring the federal and provincial governments to use Urdu as official language has now complained that the federal government was not implementing the apex court’s Sept 8 judgement.
