From Toni Magni of ADA WG 11.6 and Case Western.University

Dear ADA Standards Committee,

I am currently attending the IHE Connectathon Rennes 2023 event and had the opportunity to meet Chris Carr, where I discussed the recent interests of Working Group 11.6 (WG11.6) in publishing new IHE profiles, one of which is nearing completion. Chris Carr explained the requirements for a sponsoring organization, which include organizing regular meetings and providing technical expertise for developing IHE tests.

In my capacity as the co-chair of the working group, once we conclude our work on CP-1570, we plan to follow Lynn Felhofer's suggestion to transform the contents of ADA-1107 into an IHE Profile. This transformation would establish ADA-1107 as a declaration that ADA's standard for dental photographs aligns with the IHE Profile.

As a software developer actively working on implementing this upcoming standard/profile, I have initiated discussions with other vendors to encourage their implementation as well. Additionally, I am planning to implement the SEDI Profile within the next 24 months.

Regardless of the possibility of revitalizing the IHE Dental domain, I believe it is essential to continue along this path. We can maintain an IHE Profile-oriented document within the ADA-1107 standard. In the worst-case scenario, the ADA will possess a document ready for transformation into an IHE Profile when the timing aligns.

  1. Given the points mentioned above, I am interested in exploring the potential benefits of reinvigorating the IHE Dental domain.
  2. If there are potential benefits, what steps would be necessary on our end to make this a reality?
  3. Could we consider adding this topic to the agenda for the upcoming meeting in Florida?

Thank you for considering these thoughts, and I look forward to your insights and suggestions regarding this endeavor.

Warm regards,
