This conference will describe the re-emergence of cholera after a 100-year absence in Hispaniola. The epidemiology and clinical aspects of the cholera epidemic will be discussed by physicians and nurses who participated in the MGH/Project HOPE relief efforts in the Artibonite Valley.
Dr. Louise Ivers (Haiti Chief of Mission, Partners in Health) will join the discussion from Haiti via teleconference to provide a current update of the epidemic. Nurse Practitioner Joyce Barkin and Staff Nurse Nora Sheehan from MGH recently returned from Hopital Albert Schweitzer in support of Project HOPE. They will provide an update on the ongoing service challenges in Haiti as it relates to nursing care.
Dr. Jason Harris received his M.D. from Duke University and M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health. He was a pediatric resident at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children.
