IHE Participants,

RSNA is planning a demonstration at its 2009 Annual Meeting to showcase recent developments in radiology informatics, standards-based interoperability and image sharing. The demonstration will use the IHE Cross-enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I) profile for exchange of medical images and reports. A key element of the demonstration will be that patients maintain control of their imaging information via personal health records (PHRs). Commercial vendors and research organizations are invited to participate in the demonstration and potentially in additional image sharing projects to follow.

The demonstration will show additional features, such as ordering of radiology procedures using standardized terms defined by the RadLex radiology terminology project. Reports used in the demonstration will be generated in standardized structured templates developed by the RSNA Radiology Reporting Committee. Dose information will be captured and submitted to a dose registry for analysis using the IHE Radiation Exposure Monitoring (REM) profile. Medical images and related information will also be anonymized and exported for imaging clinical trials and development of educational materials using the IHE Teaching File and Clinical Trial Export (TCE) profile and software developed by the RSNA MIRC project.

We are requesting expressions of interest from developers of commercial radiology and health information systems, as well as from research institutions developing proof-of-concept systems who wish to take part in the demonstration.

Organizations interested in participating should to i...@rsna.org by June 30, 2009. They will be invited to take part in a discussion of the scope and technical details of the demonstration. An application to participate will subsequently be posted. The application may include a participation fee. More detail on the demonstration plans is available at http://www.ihe.net/events/rsna_demo_2009.cfm.

Best,
Chris Carr
