This draft contains a set of thoughts that I gathered as I walked through the interactions of the test engine, proxy, simulators and systems under test. Eric's group in INRIA is investigating the technology to be used for the test engine. My goal is to work on better documentation of the interfaces between the control system, test engine and other pieces. This document is not that specification, but is my way of organizing my thoughts.

The example is based on a PIX query. It is different from what Rob Snelick sent us as Rob gave us great details on what we should test in the messages. I'm trying to set up the structure so we can capture the messages and then apply the validation rules that Rob listed.

The model presented uses a centralized system for maintaining state. I believe Len Gebase and others at NIST had a more distributed model in mind.

This is just a draft to spark discussion. Now that I finally have this on paper, it would serve as an agenda item for our next Gazelle call on the 18th and part of our discussion at NIST on the 26th/27th where we can draw pictures on a board and correct my assumptions.

Feel free to take issue with my assumptions and centralized model. Eric, if your group has already discussed these issues and have a firmer direction, let me know.

regards,

Steve
