My plan was to spend the weekend in Toulouse (300km from Bordeaux) with a
friend and fly back to Madrid on Sunday afternoon
I spent Saturday morning in Toulouse train station, bus station and
airport (by then still open), trying to leave before it was too late, but
there was nothing left.
This morning (sunday) my french friend took me by car to the
French-Spanish border, in the Pirynee mountains, where my husband came to
pick me up, and we drove back to Madrid: 750km / Nine hours overall, 100
of them in winding roads. Not bad compared to some of you!
Good luck for those who are still on the way!

For Ben: ask your travel agent for a connection through Spain (Madrid).
Airports are open and you are much much closer to France. Travelling by
train to Italy and then taking the Ferry boat (Bari, Brindisi) to the west
of greece (Patras), and then again by train to Athens can take a couple of
days if you are not lucky with the connections.
