IHE A-O Members,
I am forwarding the following message from Peter MacIsaac, as he seems
to be having difficulty accessing the Group.
Best,

Members of the DI and IHE list:, The following meetings are to be
held in conjunction with the kick-off workshop for the 2008
Connectathon/Interoperablity Showcase participants and volunteers/
support crew. Those companies and individuals who have expressed
interest but have not finalised their involvement should act promptly
to secure a place. Registrations as below or queries to Klaus Veil

The seminar on XDS will focus on how the internet can be used to
archive and deliver radiology images and reports. This will be the
next technology to replace CDs.for general image delivery and will
require at least a regional infrastructure. How this can work with
current internet speeds will also be considered. Alternatives will be
discussed including Web-PACS access and proprietary report/image
management solutions. We are also keen to hear about experiences
from practices already managing digital image delivery and both
success and failures in getting uptake by GPs and specialists.
Given the strong support by RANZCR and ADIA for standards based
reporting and image delivery - radiology practices are encouraged to
find out whether their RIS/PACS/ Modality vendors are participating in
the Connectathon event to test their messages and CDs.
For the diary: during Connectathon week (Wed 30th July in Canberra)
we are planning an open day for radiology and pathology IT managers
and technicians to visit the Connectathon, see the vendors in action
working, run a workshop on IHE integration profile for PACS/RIS/
Modality and how to do HL7 messaging using Australian standards. We
would suggest that participants also bring long their image CDs and
HL7 report messages on CD to learn how to use the IHE/AHML test tools
as part of ongoing QA - adherence to these standards is going to be
part of both pathology and radiology accreditation, so learning how to
keep on top of this will become important. If the CDs and messages do
not perform then it is better to engage with your vendor sooner rather
than later to work out why - their software or your implementation!
NOTICE OF MEETINGS in June:
-
FREE "Introduction to IHE" Seminar
Sydney - 12 June 2008, 10:00 - 12:30
Since Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise ("IHE") came to Australia
in late 2004, interest and participation has been steadily growing and
the annual "Interoperability Showcase" at the HIC Conferences has
become an increasingly important interoperability event in Australia.
IHE now has broad interest as vendors and purchasers experience the
value of practically demonstrated system interoperability.
A free half-day Seminar will provide an introduction and overview of
IHE and its relevance to e-Health implementation in Australia.
The Seminar is free. For more information, detailed program and
registration go to: <

IHE XDS "Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing" Seminar
Sydney - 13 June 2008, 9:30 - 17:00
IHE's "Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing" ("XDS") allows distribution
and access of clinical documents across different care settings in
healthcare enterprises. This can be the first step towards the
longitudinal Electronic Health Record (EHR). XDS is an industry-
developed architecture which is extensible to support both point-to-
point exchange as well shared documents which "follow" the patient
through different care settings. XDS uses a registry/repository
approach for accessing clinical documents, rather than a centralised
EHR model. It easily supports distributed and organically grown
healthcare systems.
XDS is rapidly gaining interest around the world with some of the US
Regional Health Information Organisation ("RHIO"s) deploying XDS in
their system architectures. XDS is being implemented for radiology
image sharing across Canada and there are several early
implementations in Europe. A substantial number of vendors are "XDS-
ready" and have tested their products in US and European IHE
"Connectathons". XDS uses a number of communications and data
standards. It fully incorporates HL7 CDA which was endorsed by NEHTA
in 2007.
We are pleased to be able to offer an intensive XDS Course delivered
by Chris Lindop, a distinguished IHE expert and Interoperability
Program Manager at GE Healthcare from the USA. The Course will
provide an in-depth understanding of XDS, its structure and
capabilities.
The Course fee is $450, reduced to $400 for HL7 Australia members. A
Certificate of Attainment will be issued to those successfully
attending the Course.

IHE Asia-Pacific gratefully acknowledges the support of the Dept. of
Health and Ageing for these IHE events.
IHE Asia-Pacific is supported and governed by HL7 Australia, HL7 New
Zealand, Royal Australian New Zealand College of Radiologists, HISA,
Medical Software Industry Association and Australian Diagnostics
Imaging Association.
