Hi all - is it possible to use IGV without Rosetta? I've installed Eclipse Temurin Java 17 for ARM but the IGV app (without java) is still asking for Rosetta. I'm on an M1 mac with Sonoma 14.6.1

I have an M3 Mac and it identifies both versions of the IGV Mac App (with and without Java) as an Intel application, so I assume that it requires Rosetta to launch in both cases. On my Mac it never asked me to install Rosetta, I assume it was there by default. Not sure why you are against using Rosetta, but if you have a native Java, you could try downloading and running the command line version of IGV.

Hi Helga - Intel macs are no longer sold and may only be supported for a few more years. We don't know if Rosetta 2 will stick around after that. Admin rights are required to install Rosetta as well. Is there going to be an Apple Silicon version of IGV any time soon?

We have started looking into what is required to release an Apple Silicon version of IGV, but we have no estimate on when that might be done.
Can you ask the IT department at your institution if they can install Rosetta? It was already installed on my MacBook when I received it.
Also, you didn't mention whether you had tried running the command line version of IGV with your native Java. It may not work, but perhaps worth a try.
I apologize for the inconvenience, but you are actually the first to let us know they couldn't install Rosetta.
