Hi,

I'm on a 16gb machine, and sometimes I do not want IGV to limit read loading when reaching ~3-4 Gb.
How do I control the memory allocation to the IGV app?

Thank you,

Vasilios

Hi Vasilios,

The IGV Mac App currently is set to launch with 2GB, which is the max for 32-bit MacOS.
If you have a 64-bit machine and are running 64-bit Java, you could start IGV with more memory by downloading the Binary Distribution from the IGV downloads page (http://www.broadinstitute.org/igv/download) and launching IGV by running the igv.command script from command line. First edit the igv.command file to increase the max memory in the -Xmx Java option. You can also set a lower starting memory by adding the -Xms options.

Hi Helga,

I have the same problem but I am not proficient in the bash. How can I just allocate memory to the IGV app and use it from there?

Thanks,

Laura
