Hi whoever reads my message,

I am currently running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6 on a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012). My MacBook is not compatible with newer macOS versions so I am unable to update my operating system, not even to macOS 11.0 required to run IGV_2.18.4.

My question is: What is the newest version of the IGV app that I can successfully install and run on my laptop?

Please note I just updated my Java software based on an update recommendation to Java 8 Update 441. However, when I go to System Preferences > Java, the Java Control Panel quits unexpectedly (see screenshot).

I appreciate any help given.

Thanks,

Amir

Hi Amir,
Unfortunately we do not have any old Macs that we can test this with.
From https://data.broadinstitute.org/igv/projects/downloads/ you can try downloading older versions of IGV and see if they work for you.
You will see that all the older versions for all the different platforms are there. Be sure to download files with "MacApp" in the name, as well as "WithJava" - which will include the Java needed and does not used the Java installed on your system.

Another option is to use the web app version of IGV, which runs in your web browser. See https://igv.org/app.

Hi Helga,

Thank you for your helpful suggestion. I will try downloading progressively older versions to find the latest version that works.

Kind regards,

Amir
