Hi,

I find I suddenly can't launch my IGV anymore. It worked well before. My version is 2.3. When I open it it says "unable to launch the application".

And the detail ("Exception")says:

CouldNotLoadArgumentException[ Could not load file/URL specified: C:\Users\......\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\43\74d551ab-40b86258]

at com.sun.javaws.Main.access$000(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

"Wrapped Exception":

java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Users\......\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\43\74d551ab-40b86258 (The system cannot find the file specified)

at com.sun.javaws.Main.access$000(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

I updated to the latest Java 7 but still doesn't work.

What could be the possible reason?

Thanks!

Hi,

It looks like your java cache is corrupt,  clearing it and re-installing should solve the problem.

Thank you! An additional problem - do you know what could be wrong if I can't find the java icon (or java control panel) in my control panel? (I'm using Windows Vista.)

Thank you for that! I just cleared the java cache, uninstalled java 7, and re-installed java 7, but now I still get the same problem as before! What else I could try? I'm completely clueless...

The next thing I would try then is to install a local copy, as opposed to using the web links.  There is a zip archive on the downloads page for this purpose.  Alternatively, you could try the installer at the link below.  Its not released yet because we are still testing, but it should work if your Vista operating system is 64-bit.  Please give use feedback if you try this.

Thank you Jim, and another small question is, how can I uninstall IGV (before reinstall it as you suggested)? It doesn't appear in Control Panel programs.

Hi,

If you have only tried the "web start" buttons you don't need to
un-install, you can just delete any icons or jnlp files left on your
system.

The installer referenced will only work if you have 64-bit Vista. If you
have 32-bit you will need to wait for us to have an installer ready.
Also, we don't have any Vista computers here so it hasn't been tested on
that platform.

Hi Jim,

I installed the new version IGV from the link you gave me. When I ran it it says Java Runtime Environment was not found. Is it normal?

That is not normal. Which option did you use, I gave you 2?

The installer link you gave me. I used it without doing anything with the older one that I have.

OK, do you have Java installed on that computer?  If so could you open a "Command Prompt" and type java -version in the window, and let us know what it says.

The only option left is to download the "zip" archive, unzip it,  and run using the "igv.bat" file in it.    Sorry but we don't have Windows Vista files here and no experience with that environment.  Perhaps others on this board with Vista can shed some light.

Jim,

I typed java -version in command prompt. It says "java" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

You need to install Java on your computer.

But I went to java website to detect my java and it says "You have the recommended Java installed (Version 7 Update 51)".

Ahh, Windows, isn't it wonderful?

Doing some research via google I found this, which I think should help.

Alternatively you can wait for another installer update from us, which may or may not help.   You did not confirm for me whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows Vista, it will make a difference when choosing an installer.

Jim,

My system is 64-bit.

So I think my problem is at java although I installed it and verified it on java website, right?

Sorry I think I have to come back (after some delay) to ask more questions...

I added the java path to environment variant. And now I open the IGV (installed from the link exe file you gave me) and a window comes out to let me identify the java path, and I did so, it said "failed to load java VM library: C:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre7\bin\client\jvm.dll (errno = 193)"

Do you know what could be wrong here? Still my java?

Thanks!
