Hello,

I am wondering what the data is that IGV uses for its gene annotations? For example, when looking at the gene NEFL on hg38, the 5' untranslated region is larger than what UCSC Genome Browser annotates, so I am hoping to understand where the IGV annotation comes from.

Thank you

If you mouse over the gene track it will show you the URL of the source file.
The Refseq Genes track for hg38 comes directly from UCSC:  https://hgdownload.soe.ucsc.edu/goldenPath/hg38/database/ncbiRefSeq.txt.gz
