Dear IGV,

I have a question regarding the use of IGV on a virtual machine without internet connection.
We have the possibility to whitelist an IP-adress, however this is not possible for dynamic IP addresses as the one from IGV.

My qyestion is if IGV can work without internet connection?

I tried to download hg19 as reference genome from:
GRCh37 - hg19 - Genome - Assembly - NCBI (nih.gov)
But when I load this in IGV it still doesn’t work as it does outside the virtual machine environment.

Can you help me with this? Or does IGV require an internet connection to work properly?

Kind regards,
Jorien Janssen

Hi Jorien,
Please see the instructions here for how to download an IGV hosted genome and configure it for offline use. Let us know if you have any questions.

This is a frequent request so we've made a few genome packages available for offline use.  You can download them from here:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16EEDgjwVZ6hPA0sLzatQ_s301HRS6M-F?usp=sharing

After downloading unzip the archive, and load the ".json" file from the "Genomes > Load from File" menu in the genome folder.  For GRCh37 download the "hg19.zip" file.

I'm not sure what you could have downloaded from NCBI,  but if you have created a custom genome you can make it work locally by following the steps indicated earlier (instructions here).
