operation not permitted

We are trying to open a bam file, and in the folder it has .bai file. But IGV shows operation not permitted. I think I need to change the permission of the IGV to my desktop. But I can not figure out what to do.

Hi, you really haven't given us much information, but am I correct you are on a Mac?  My first suggestion would be to be sure you are running the latest version of IGV.   If you are do a web search on granting an application access to your Desktop for whatever operating system you are running.   I'm guessing is where you are trying to load the file from.

I am using a mac and downloaded the newest version, but I think the IGV asked if I gave permission to the desktop/mac,but I picked no. Since I did not know. But now I can not find the option to change it back. And we can not just load .bam, but the other file.

This is a Mac question, I don't think you can fix this with IGV the Mac will remember your choice.    You will need to change it from system settings, do a web search on how to give apps permission to the desktop for your specific Mac OS version.  Another option is to not store files in sensitive folders such as Desktop or Documents.
