Dear commission members,

Once again it is time to compile the annual report for 2023. I hope everyone has a good year of 2023.

If anyone had organized or attended any events as the member of our commission, or plan to hold any event in 2024 and later years, please provide materials (such as short introduction of the event, photos, flyers) to me. If you have any publications directly related to the commission activity, please also let me know. Thank you for your support.

Best regards.

Subject: 2023 Commission Reports

Dear IGU Commission and Task Force Chairperson

I should appreciate your reading this email carefully as it contains information that is important to the continuation of your IGU Commission or Task Force.

It is time once again to start compiling your annual Commission/Task Force report for 2023.  If you are not the person responsible for compiling your Commission/Task Force report, please can you ensure that this communication reaches the appropriate person?  I am pleased to remind you that we now have an annual IGU Commission/Task Force Excellence Award with a prize of US$2500 together with the opportunity to present a keynote address at a future IGU Conference of Congress.  The next award will be based on evidence of Commission/Task Force activities as documented in the annual report you submit.  It is especially important that you compile a full report and submit timeously, as the IGU Executive Committee will make a recommendation to the General Assembly at the Dublin Congress in August 2024 regarding continuation as an IGU Commission.

Accordingly, please submit your IGU Commission/Task Force report for 2023 by 15 December 2023 at the latest.  Your report should be a maximum of eight pages.   You may use the structure below as a guide as to the type of information to be included in your annual report.

A. Membership

The structure of your current steering committee, including all names and contact details. The number of Commission/Task Force corresponding members (i.e. your ‘membership’ - circulation - list, in total and, if at all possible, by country as of 1 December 2023). The counts of members by country are exceedingly helpful in documenting to the International Science Council (ISC) and other international organizations the IGU’s extensive reach.

B. Meetings

a. The meetings your commission organized in 2023 with information on their locations, dates, and numbers of participants.

b. A brief summary of the topics addressed at each meeting and the findings or conclusions resulting from the discussions if appropriate (please do not simply paste in the conference programme!). Please highlight any new initiatives and insights identified at each meeting. Note, please do not include the full conference programme but please do include a photograph or two if you have them).

c. The meetings or other events you plan to hold in 2024 and later years, including locations, dates, and the topics/themes to be addressed.

 C. Networking

a. Means, if any, by which your commission has collaborated with other IGU Commissions and Task Forces during 2023.

b. Collaboration, if any, with other international, intergovernmental, or inter- and multi-disciplinary bodies in 2023.

c. Cooperative efforts, if any, with the International Science Council (ISC) and the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH) programs, etc.

D. Publications

a. Newsletters, special journal issues, and books published in 2022-23 (please provide complete citations).  Note these publications should only be included if they are directly related to your IGU Commission activities (i.e. please do not provide a list of the publications pasted in from the CVs of steering committee members!)

b. The current (accurate) URL of the commission’s website.

E. Archival Contributions

Materials and publications transmitted to the IGU archives by your commission. Copies (soft copies if appropriate) of all newsletters, monographs, special journal issues, etc. should be sent to the IGU Secretary-General upon publication for transmission to the archivist. Photographs from your meetings, field excursions, or other events that you are willing to share are especially gratefully received and will be included in the IGU e-Newsletter.

The Commission’s reports will be published on the website and in the IGU. These reports will also provide the Executive Committee with information for the evaluation of Commissions in regard to their continuation.

I look forward to hearing from you before 15th December 2023; the report should be submitted as MSWord or pdf document to me a: barb...@istanbul.edu.tr

Note: (*) 'Commission and Task Force' referred to throughout the document as ‘Commission' for brevity

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

Best regards

Barbaros Gönençgil

Secretary General
