Subject: Extended deadline for event proposals GeoNight 2021 - International call for organising events to promote geography and geographers
Dear IGU colleagues,
This is an update regarding the proposal events for the GeoNight (April 9th 2021). The deadline to submit event proposals has been extended to March 8th.
So far, many countries are proposing events but we believe that many more could join in organising events (either physically or online). You can find where the events will take place on this map: https://www.geonight.net/2021/03/01/proposals-until-sunday-28-february-2021/
You can propose events following this link:https://www.geonight.net/propose-an-event/
We have created a short video to help you go through completing the proposal form. You can download it HERE
The main guidelines, instructions, and tips for organising events are also available here: https://www.geonight.net/guidelines/
As a reminder, the organised events are non-commercial and should ideally be free.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us:

Objet: GeoNight 2021 - International call for organising events to promote geography and geographers
Dear IGU colleagues from all around the world ,
In the name of the GeoNight's organising committee (CNFG, EUGEO, IGU), I hope this e-mail finds you well and healthy in these troubling times.
We are contacting you because despite the various uncertainties we are all facing on a daily basis, there is also room for optimism and hope. This is what we expect the 2021 GeoNight will be able to bring. As you may know, the 2020 GeoNight edition was largely hindered by the Covid crisis. Nonetheless, some organisers managed to be able to hold online events. This year we are hoping to organise many events across the globe on Friday April 9th, the date of GeoNight. As always, all countries are free to participate. The main goal of GeoNight's events are to promote geography and geographers to the general public (and not only to academics) one night/evening a year and simultaneously around the world. These events can be either organised in person (we hope this will be a possibility given the circumstances) or online. In case you decide to organise events online, various activities can be considered such as : lectures, podcasts, posters/photos competition, virtual urban walks (using Google Street View, for instance), quizzes (using a video-conference platform), amongst others. Just be creative, as always!
As a new year resolution, a brand new GeoNight website was created (https://www.geonight.net/). You will find all the necessary information to organise an event and the latest updates (including an interactive map of the events).
Already interested in organising events ? please complete the form here: https://www.geonight.net/2021/01/08/propose/
Still unsure? You have until March 1st to fill in the form from our website.
You want the proposal form to be available in your language (if not already available on the website) ? Please, using the Excel file attached to this e-mail, give us the translation of the relevant questions and terms, and we'll make sure to make this form in your language available on our website.
The main guidelines, instructions, and tips for organising events are available here: https://www.geonight.net/guidelines/
As a reminder, the organised events are non-commercial and should ideally be free.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us:
All the best for 2021 and let's all keep geography amazing !
