I love the IGoogle Sidebar except for one thing. I really do not like
having it load each time I open it. It would be great if the keyboard
shortcut and the toolbar button toggled between hiding the toolbar and
showing it. This way, we could access it quickly.

I use GMarks as a way to access my Google Bookmarks instead of using
Firefox's bookmarks manager. When I load that sidebar (and any other
sidebar) I have to load IGoogle Sidebar again when it opens. I do not
know how to go about "caching" the session, or finding out how to
eliminate loading time, but it would make it a lot more useful since
other sidebars (history, GMarks) load instantly.

Thank you for providing us with a very useful and expandable extension.

Great extension,
Only one question, How can you open the sidebar without reloading the
igoogle sidebar?
I have a couple of radio modules in google homepage and they stop when
reloaded.
Also some modules don't work in the sidebar, (ones from google needing
your sign in {even when i am signed in and using gmail/google homepage
in the main window...} for example search history, the new bookmarks
module...

Louis and XENO, thanks for your feedback - it is really apprecatiated!

I just opened issue #24
[http://code.google.com/p/igsidebar/issues/detail?id=24] for the
"re-open without reloading" feature request. It might be tricky to
implement though (I still need to figure out how to do it... Any XUL
expert around?)

I am using the official bookmarks module
[http://www.google.com/ig/modules/builtin_bookmarks.xml] and have no
problem with it.
What do you see for this module when you go to http://www.google.com/ig
? (this is the URL being displayed in the sidebar)

Try http://www.google.com/ig/modules/bookmarks.xml
and you will get a msg saying that the info will be showen after you
sign in (this is the case even when i open igoogle with a signed in
gmail page next to it.
Also the same for http://www.google.com/ig/modules/smh_trends.xml

Thank you
Xeno

Ok I tried those modules, they both work for me (although I can't
really tell for Search History yet because you need to wait for a few
days before seing results: "There aren't enough searches for trends
yet. Check back after searching for a couple days and be sure you're
signed in when you search.").

So I guess your problem comes from cookies - you are probably logged
in another domain (not google.com).

Please go to: http://www.google.com/ig and tell me if the modules work.

While being signed in to my google page, where they work, i opened the igoogle and both of them read "Your..." Bookmarks/Search history  trends "...will appear here once you're signed in."

I made a development version of the extension that implements the "hide
but don't close" feature as follows:
- IGoogle has its own sidebar (which is always to the left of the
normal sidebar)
- toggling IGoogle off does not close its sidebar but just hides it and
keeps the page "open" (yet not visible)
- clicking the close button in IGoogle sidebar actually closes it

It you want to give it a try, you can find it here:
