Hi guys.

Once I was told a story that a student came to a Dzogchen teacher and complained about another fellow practitioner, saying that the guy had offended a vajra sister. The story says that the teacher asked the complainant: but how can a Dzogchen practitioner be offended?

Nowadays, feeling offended became a kind of a cultural pattern. People get easily offended by virtually anything. Everything that even slightly hurts someone’s feelings becomes a really big deal. Every single remark on race, religion, gender etc. can potentially ignite a conflict. Even pronouns have become insulting. Some people, even though not being offended personally, find someone’s words offensive to others as if they could have read their minds. In general, people nowadays are hypersensitive and can be easily hurt. Maybe it’s ok with general folks, but even practitioners often follow this pattern and see no fault in it.

But who is hurt, who is offended? The answer to this question is easy and simple: the Ego. Being offended and being driven by this feeling is one of the so-called “eight worldly concerns”. The methods of Sutra, Tantra, and Dzogchen provide all necessary means to deal with both the feeling and the very possibility of being offended. These methods are respectively non-self, pure vision, and self-liberation. The workshop is about how a practitioner can apply those methods.

For Dzogchen practitioners.
