Friends,

There is still a confusion around this topic.  Appreciate if someone can update on the following points:

  • Is synopsis to be submitted before getting invitation for the interview/presentation?
  • Will an early submission improve the chance of getting selected for interview?
  • Is anyone aware of an optimum length of the synopsis?
  • There was a mention of 9 copies of the synopsis to be submitted.  Is this to be done while attending the interview or even before?  Do not remember seeing anything of this  sort mentioned in the Prospectus.
  • Assume that Synopsis should be submitted to the Head of the concerned school.  If otherwise, please update.
Thanks in advance

Hi Sree,
I told that that I first got a mail from the Asst.Prof of English asking me to send the synopsis soon  or else then I may not be accommodated for the test and interview if she does not get it. Also two dates were mentioned - 31.10.12 and 1.11.12 on which I have to be there. Not on one single day as others have mentioned. I am not sure about the other subjects or the experience of those who have appeared for English.
Regards,
Mrs. Kshama Shashidhar

Kshama,

I called up another person in Trivandrum who again has applied for Management.  He also has submitted the Synopsis.  He tells me that there is high possibility of written test being introduced for Management discipline as well.

Anyway, I am sending my Synopsis to the department by Speed Post tomorrow itself.

best regards,
-Sree

Hi Sree,
Do that but do not forget to email the copy of the same as well to the concerned department. I am happy to tell you that my ticket to Delhi by Mangala Express has finally been confirmed!
Regards,
Mrs. Kshama Shashidhar

Dear Sree,

Thanks for the upate Sree about sending the synopsis to the Department. To whose attention will you address the Synopsis in the department?  Thought I will also send the same.

Best Regards

Sundar

The prospectus clearly states the requirement (though not mandatory)of a sysnopsis alongwith word limit. But the ignou website had their old prospectus and application form from last years up for a long long time so i do not know which prospectus you are referring to- the current 2012 prospectus has stated both.

the application form also required to a put a tick or a cross against the option declaring whether we are submitting the synopsis with our application form or not. However, nowhere does it state that you HAVE to have a sysnopsis in your hand during the interview.

Having said that, common sense prevails as to what will you talk about before a panel? The interview will be more streamlined if one has a topic in hand else the interview too can get difficult like the test perhaps?

9 Copies of synopsis are usually submitted AFTER selection that too in case you are not suggested to make any changes to your current topic/ content.

Hi Kshama
Have you been asked to be present on both 31st and 1st? If so, will you please be kind enough tos hare your expreiences on the 31st itself so that those appearing later from other disciplines or the same discipline might benefit?

Kshama, have you attached your synopsis with the form? Or have you sent it by post later? Or are you carrying it in hand with you on both dates? This concept of 2 dates is confusing as recently i saw a schedule properly put up for phd comp sci stuents on the ignou website.
