My guide had mentioned the 'problem statement'/ research topic also in the consent letter. That may be her style of doing it. the approved guides will know the format. I had submitted the synopsis to her first, only after that she consented. it was really good, because I had could do minor revision.

eHi friends! I wud like to know how many candidates do they have to select? For example, in English arnd 78 candidates have applied. How many seats are there? Shane,

Each candidate has an option to recommend an external supervisor if
he/she so desires. This was requested in the application form itself.

If a person does not have an external supervisor to recommend, the
university will assign an internal supervisor upon selection.

This is what I have understood of the process. Appreciate if anyone
with more information can add on to this.

Interview covers presentation as well. Before you appear in interview/presentation you will be asked to take a written test whose main motive is to check the language proficiency and knowledge of research work.

Is the written test AFTER the interview? If yes, then everyone who appears for  the interview will have to appear for test or only selective candidates will be asked to give the test? I attached my synopsis, consent letter, CV of research guide with my application form. so now what all documents am i supoosed to carry at the time of the interview?

anybody who can tell me what's the whole reason behing having a test AFTER the interview for Phd Englsih? and do all candidates have to appear for both?

I remember a post saying that it was done to test the candidate's capability to write good English.  The interview will be focused on the research topic.

I did read it but usually a written test is before an interview not afterwards. anyway, they have their own procedure. it is just too cumbersome to carry degrees (the length and width of my actaul degrees is so big) and sit/walk/write a test with them.
