Information that could be of interest to you.  There are universities that offer Ph.D admission anytime during the year:

• Calicut University
• Bharathiyar University

BITS Pilani has invited applications for their Part-time and Full-time Ph.D. courses.  The fees looks prohibitively expensive even if admission is managed.  Their course is also unconventional and looks little ambiguous.

Dear Sree  I am one of the candidates waiting for IGNOU response on our fate for PHD in management admission/interview.When I enquired last with IGNOU officials they told that last year out of 300 candidates they shortlisted 60 candidates for interview and admitted only 8. IGNOU selection process seems to be quite difficult. Many university admitted PHD student on the basis of NET test conducted by UGC. The age eligibility for JRF is 28 years while for lectureship there is no age limit. I am 54 years old, therefore not eligible for JRF ( I work with a PSU Bank as Assistant General Manager, in Bangalore). I have applied for NET Dec 2012 test ( for lecturership). Am I eligible to persue PHD from an university who admit in PHD on the basis of NET exam (qualified). Rajesh Kumar Juyal

Rajesh,

With the kind of experience in Banking Industry, you should be able to seek admission to many universities in India even without NET.  NET exam would definitely be a big plus.

As noted in my previous mail, Calicut University in Kerala, Bharathiyar University in TamilNadu, GITAM University www.gitam.edu in Andhra (as Sundar updated us) are a few of them.

Many NIT (formerly Regional Engineering Colleges) have issued admission notifications :  admission to NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, NIT Puducherry etc are open, as I understand.  However, these institutions have a residential requirement of 6 months, so also the IITs.

BITS Pilani does not have any residential requirement.  Their course structure looks very strenuous and very very expensive:  Rs. 70,000 per semester.  This would be like Rs.400,000 or above for a Ph.D program.

There would be other institutions as well calling for admissions before long.  I am sure we will get to hear from others in the forum.
