An Overview

Evaluation of the performance of learners is one of the important components of any teaching-learning system. Indira Gandhi National Open University evaluates the performance of its learners through Tutor Marked Assignments, project works, practical and the Term End Examinations. As one of the learners friendly features, The University has been conducting Term End Examinations twice in a year. Walk-in-Examination is an innovative step forward to make the examination system more flexible and to provide an opportunity for the learners to take up the examinations as per their desire and preparation.


This innovative venture of Walk-in Examination will provide a completely flexible system of examination independent of the traditional fixed time frame. Under the scheme of Walk in Examinations, IGNOU students can walk into the identified Win Exam Centre of the University on the prescribed days as per their choice and appear for the examination in the course in which they are registered. They may not require to wait for the six monthly term end examination.


The required question papers are generated by the computer picking up the questions randomly from the question bank as per the blue print and design specific to the courses on the day of examination.

 

Features of Walk-in-Exam

The required question papers are generated by the computer picking up the questions randomly from the question bank as per the blue print and design specific to the courses on the day of examination. The Walk-in-Exam is an innovative venture in the field of evaluation of the performance of the students as per their preparations for examination. Following are the important features of Walk-in Exam:


     •   No need to Wait for the six monthly term end examinations.

     •   Choice of deciding the dates of exam lies with students.

     •   Individualized question paper for each student.

     •   On-line registration for Walk-in-Exam.

     •   On-line issue of Hall Ticket.

     •   On-line Payment of Exam fee.

     •   On-line clarification of doubts through e-mail.

     •   Complete transparency in allotment of exam dates.

     •   No possibility of malpractices.

     •   May reduce load on the term end exam.


Eligibility for Walk-in-Exam

Students  have the option to appear in the Walk-in-Examination provided they have completed the minimum eligibility period and their admission is valid. The eligible students can appear in the Walk-in Examination as per their wish and preparation as and when they feel ready for the examination, subject to the availability of  seats in the Walk-in-Exam Centres and availability of the Walk-in-Exam in that particular Course/programme.

 

Registration for Walk-in-Exam

Registration for Walk-in-Examination will be on-line. Any registered and bonafide student of IGNOU having an enrolment number can register for Walk-in-Exam on-line by filling and submitting on-line registration form along with the requisite examination fee on-line through credit card or through Bank Draft. If the registration fee is paid online through credit card and the student found to be eligible for appearing in the examination, Hall Ticket will be generated on-line immediately after registration for Walk-in-Exam.

If the examination fee is submitted through bank draft, the bank draft number, amount, date and name of drawee should be mentioned in the on-line registration form. An acknowledgement receipt will be generated immediately after submission of the registration form, if otherwise found eligible. A copy of the acknowledgement receipt along with the Bank Draft in favour of the IGNOU should be sent to the concerned Regional Centre or the Walk-in-Exam unit. The registration for Walk-in-Exam will be confirmed only after receiving the requisite examination fee.

 

Registration fee for Walk-in-Exam

For appearing in the Walk-in-Exam, the student has to deposit an amount of Rs 300/- per course along with the registration form for Walk-in-Exam.  The registration fee for Walk-in-Exam may be paid on-line through credit card or by Bank Draft  drawn in favour of "IGNOU", payable at "New Delhi". 

If the registration fee is paid through credit card, the registration for Walk-in-Exam will be confirmed immediately and a provisional Hall Ticket having details of Walk-in-Exam dates, time and Exam centre will be issued immediately. Student can take a print out of the same which would be required for appearing in the Walk-in-Exam.

If the registration fee is paid by Bank Draft, the bank draft number, amount, date and the drawee bank are to be mentioned in the registration form and the bank draft is to be sent to IGNOU immediately along with a copy of the Acknowledgement Receipt issued at the time of registration for Walk-in-Exam otherwise your registration will not be confirmed. 

 

Days of Walk-in-Exam

Initially the Walk-in-Exam will be conducted on every Sunday at the selected Regional Centres of IGNOU and on Friday at the IGNOU campus at New Delhi.  Depending on the need and number of students opting for Walk-in-Examination, its frequency per week may be increased.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Walk-in Exam

 

1. What is Walk-in-Exam?

Walk-in-Examination is an innovative system of evaluation  making the examination system more flexible and providing  an opportunity for the learners to take up the examinations as per their desire and preparation. Through walk-in-Exam, a student can walk into an identified  Win-Exam Centre  and can appear in the examination after submitting the registration form and requisite fee.

 

2. How can a student get registered for Walk-in-Exam?

A student desirous of appearing in Walk-in-Exam can get himself/herself registered on-line by submitting the registration form and paying the requisite amount of registration fee.

 

3. Can a student walk-into the Win-Exam centre and register on the spot for Walk-in-Exam?

Yes, a student can walk into any of the win-exam centres and get registered for Walk-in Exam provided the seats are available for that day. That is why, in order to avoid inconvenience to the students, it is advised to get registered in advance.

 

4. Is the Walk-in-Exam conducted in all the courses offered by the university?

No, presently Walk-in-Exam is being conducted in a few courses only. But The university has planned to extend facility of Walk-in-Exam gradually for all the courses.

 

5. How is Walk-in-Exam different from the Term End Examination of the University?

Term End Examination of the university is conducted twice in a year where as the Walk-in-Exam  provides an opportunity for the learners to take up the examinations as per their desire and preparation free from the  fixed schedule and time.  In fact, when ever a student feels ready to appear in the examination in a course, she/ he can walk into any of the Win-Exam centres to appear in the examination in a course of his/her choice.

 

6. How many times  can a student appear through Walk-in-Exam?

After completing the minimum eligibility criteria, a student can appear in Walk-in-Exam as many times as he/she wants to. However, The student is required to register for Walk-in-Exam and pay the  requisite fee  every time.

 

7. Can a Student appear in Walk-in-Exam from any of the Win-Exam Centres?

Yes, a student can appear in  Walk-in-Exam from any  of the Win-Exam Centres  of the university as per her/his convenient.

 

8. What will be the pattern and format  of the Question Paper for a particular course? Is it different from the question paper of the term end exam for that course?

The format and pattern of the question papers is same as that for the Term End Examination for that course.

The unique feature of the Walk-in-Exam scheme is that each student will get an individualized question paper generated by a computer for a course.

 

9. What happens if a student fails in a particular course appeared through Walk-in-Exam?

The student can appear again and again through Walk-in-Exam till she/he passes the course.

 

10. How much is the registration fee for appearing through Walk-in-Exam?

The registration fee for Walk-in-Exam is  Rs.300- per course.

 

11. How can a student pay  the registration fee for Walk-in-Exam?

The registration fee for Walk-in-Exam can be paid either on-line by credit card  or through  bank draft in favour of IGNOU payable at  New Delhi. Yes, a student registered for a programme  can choose Term End  Examination in some courses and Walk-in-Exam in others.

 

13. How will the students find out about their Examination results?

The result of the Walk-in-Exam will be available on IGNOU website with in the first two weeks of the month following the month of exam. Result will be sent to the concerned Regional centre and to the student directly at his/her address.

 

14. Are the Degrees/Certificates issued by the university for the programmes passed through Walk-in-Exam and the same programme passed through Term End Exam, equivalent and have same value?

The Degree/Certificate issued  to a student who has passed his/her courses through Term End Examinations of the university is equivalent to Degree/Certificate issued  to him/her on passing the same programme of the University through Walk-in-Exam.

All BCA / MCA student should send emails to start walk in exam for BCA / MCA and all centres should also request SR&E Division for the same.

yes thats a good valid point but

if normally, hw much time do u think it will take ....to BCA to be in walk in exam scheme

its gud to have walk in exams but it will reate a clumsy condition for all.
