Hello all,
Group for Rural Activities (GRA), IITB cordially invites you to a formal
function of distribution of bicycles donated by Hostel 4 and Hostel 13 to
tribal school children in Jawhar and an 'Interaction Session' with them
on this *Saturday 9 Feb 2013.*
Through GRA Bicycle Donation Campaign 2012, we are donating 39 bicycles
from Hostel 4 and Hostel 13 to school children from two schools in tribal
villages nearby Jawhar, Dist. Thane. Jawhar is a hilly region located
around 120Km north of Mumbai and people there live in small 'Pada's which
are usually quite distant from each other. School children have to cover
long distances; as long as 10-12km daily on foot to reach the school. The
bicycles which we are donating are going to make their education a bit
easier.
The 'Interaction Session' with children and in general with tribal villagers
will help us understand the life there, the kind of hardships these people
bear, why this region has remained undveloped despite being so close to
Mumbai, and the overall situation of education of the children of the
region.
The journey to Jawhar takes around 3hrs and there are direct buses to
Jawhar available from Thane S.T. Bus Depot every half an hour.
