SIGNIFICANCE: VITAL
( FOR CIRCULATION WITHIN CSIT ¾ CLASS ONLY )
Dear Friends,
It is very important that you realize that the present scenario is
very competitive and confusing. We must achieve something remarkable
by the end of the four year course. That's the only way we will
survive in honor. During our 4th year, we will be totally inclined in
improving our aggregates, reclaiming backlogs, Applications to
Universities, and BIG PROJECT. So, the next semester is VITAL. It is
definitely true that even in the next semester we will all be busy in
preparing for the entrance examinations of the higher courses that we
wish to pursue. But, we have no choice, but to lay a strong
foundation, to achieve something on a major scale in the 4th year. So,
please remember that the next semester starting from the holidays that
commence from 23rd of November, is a very crucial time. This is our
last chance to distinguish ourselves. I will briefly explain the
strategy that you should employ to achieve this.
What the World demands from YOU:
1.Average Knowledge in all the fields covered in the B-tech Curriculum
+ General Knowledge.
2.Command over at least one of the fields…e.g. Networking, Software
Engineering, Graphics
3.Perfect Skill in at least one of the programming languages…e.g. C,
C++, Java, .net
4.Excellent Communication Skills…which include knowledge, fluency,
fearlessness, group participation, diplomacy, concealing emotions (EQ-
Emotional Quotient) etc.
5.CREATIVITY or INNOVATIVITY (brought to light through Research
Papers, Articles & Projects.)
6.BIG PROJECT (mostly stand alone)
7.VERSATALITY and LEADERSHIP QUALITIES, MANAGEMENT SKILLS… using
Extra-Curricular Activities (This is the easiest and most effective
way to show that you possess these qualities)
8.SQ (Spiritual Quotient) – It has an effective impact, though not
directly. It is a symbol that you are calm and composed. And that's
what employers want, especially in private firms.
9.Teaching Skills… it is a consequence of Communication Skills and
Command over the Subject, it simply signifies that you are the best in
that field.
I R A S AIMS AT THE FULFILLMENT OF THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS.
How Does IRAS help you in these aspects…
The following are the activities that IRAS will initialize from the
forth coming semester starting from tomorrow:
1.Execution of IGNITE – a platform to execute IRAS by enabling better
communication amongst us. Visit the group at
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/ignite. To become a member, mail
to vikram...@gmail.com. The group bulletin will contain
notifications, schedules, articles etc. As a member you can also post
your messages and articles. Its important that you enroll yourself as
a member NOW!!!
2.Teaching of Computer Fundamentals to CSIT ¼ Class during the
holidays. – Refer Practicum001 at IGNITE (On the Group Bulletin). You
could also take part in this program. Please view the list of topics
hosted on the Ignite Bulletin. Practicum001 will commence after one
week. So, respond immediately if you wish to participate, to get more
details. A series of such Practicum will take place by the nest
semester. Note that, if your participation is significant, this will
be a BIG HIT on your resume. Indirectly, requirement nos. 1,2,4,7 and
9 mentioned in the previous page will be fulfilled. Participation is
highly recommended for those aiming for an aid through TA (Teaching
Assistantship) in US.
3.SMALL SCALE PROJECTS: Rather then embarking on a huge project
directly, it is good if one starts with small projects. The code can
be written in any language…say C or C++, and not necessarily Java. Two
teams 'ARTHA and PIRATES' are already working on projects 'JAVASTR and
DATABASE SUPPORT FOR MEDIA PLAYER' respectively (Check details on
Ignite). So, using Ignite as a base to communicate, voice your ideas,
form teams, and start working on small and simple projects
immediately. (Small projects finish faster, so you don't get hung with
frustration, and are a good source to build self confidence. The
simpler the better. E.g. Simple games like Minesweeper, Car Race2D,
Puzzles, Databases to Small Applications, Web Services, Animations
using Flash, 3DSMax or Maya etc.,). So, Requirements 3 and 5 are
fulfilled, and paves way for requirement 6.
4. Posting Articles in Ignite is a very important thing to do. Note
that the articles must be written by YOU. It may be regarding a
particular subject, or a specific topic, technology, trends, finance,
marketing, business strategies, philosophy, events, personalities etc.
Ignite must be an active arena wherein you develop your intellectual
skills enhancing your vocabulary. This is a testing place for all.
Nobody is perfect. So, give no room for shyness. Please participate.
In future we will publish some of the articles in the newspapers and
magazines. This fulfills requirements 1,4 and 5.
5.Regarding SQ, this concept is still evolving. A team called COREL
(Refer – Ignite Bulletin) is working on the strategies and the agenda.
It will be soon apparent after the college reopens.
6.Extra-Curricular Activities: A number of activities like seminars,
group discussions, debates, and the most exciting part…a music club
and also a school of drama are soon to be manifest. These concepts are
also evolving to be presented before the college. A few trials will be
played in the holidays itself. So, watch for latest schedules on
Ignite. Be sure to be a part of this.
The above are the activities that IRAS will undertake immediately.
This is the base…the beginning. More activities will come up soon
after the college reopens. The schedules will be hosted on Ignite.
Your opinions are very much welcome. So, before its too late to make
changes, embark on this frame on mind right now. Begin working right
now. Participate very actively, in harmony. Join 'Ignite' and receive
