Ihave the same issue once again. My freeware Toad Data Modeler expires Oct 2021 (8days). I am trying to download the latest freeware and continue. I have downloaded using the link from Jeff above and when I go thru the install it says that version expired a few months ago. I have tried both 32 and 64 bit. I don't get an install dialog as such, but a Repair or Remove option?? Is there something new in freeware that I am not aware of?

I am a retired database person who participates in Access forums. I find the freeware version useful and helpful in responding to forums posts. Can someone advise on getting continued use of the freeware version? Direct link to community or to the proper download.

Any advice appreciated.

Thank you

Hi orange Cat,

I recieved a few day ago email from quest, that Toad Data Modeler freeware is ending. So you need to pay a commercial license. All TDM freeware versions has a timebomb, so after some period it is not possible to run it without license key. If you have license key, you can use it in your freeware version and you will get commercial version.

I explained my situation and the freeware version I have been using:

I am using the freeware version of TDM 7.3.0.252. It is limited in function and capacity. I believe it can handle 25 entities - so limited in scope. As I recall, you download TDM and after 30 days it reverts to the limited freewware version that has a 1 year life( 365 days before expiring). Just saw your message. I'll try again. Thank you

Petra's response:

Or you can download the trial version with all functionalities from this link Toad Data Modeler Free Trial and it will last for 30 days

Sure, it was my pleasure to help

Petra

The community edition of Erwin, like the Freeware edition of TDM was free -typically had to be renewed annually. But both these "community"/"limited functionality" products have been terminated. Totally agree that ErWin and TDM are cost prohibitive for a retiree who dabbles in various database/data model forums.

Appears we have different needs. I wanted a simple tool to help with logical and physical data models when responding to posters on a few database forums. I worked several years in database and data management and we used ErWin. I've been retired 14 years and for most of the time (up to 2016 or so) I used the community edition of ErWin. When it was made no longer available, I looked around for other options. I found the Toad Data Modeler freeware and used it up until earlier this year. Since the software was only used about 10 times per year, and only to assist others on forums who were learning or who had difficulties with data structures/normalization and modeling generally, it makes no sense to buy a full function product. I am volunteering some time to help others with concepts or options. I am not building, maintaining or selling anything.

You seem to have a need for a product capable of supporting Postgres 12. If TDM works for you, and since you are participating in a TOAD forum, why not discuss options with TOAD.

Good luck

Help me. In my company we work with both tools (Erwin and PowerDesigner). The models need to be portables between them. I was able to import Erwin model to Power Designer but I could not export from PD to Erwin. I found in other communities it is possible by converting to OOM and export to XMI format but in my opinion this is a very serious limitation. Anyone know How to do this?

Yesterday, I was able to import PD model (CDM) into Erwin using ERwin import options. There It is possible import either CDM file or PDM file but my point of view should be exist a option to export to other tools. XMI could be a standard to be followed in this case.

The ERwin community edition does limit you to small models, so you probably need the full product. As far as I can tell from the ERwin web site, the cost of ERwin includes the Meta Integration bridge.

I agree with George, but will add that XMI as a standard is only focused on the Object Model and does not really have support for the graphical notations, just the objects. This leaves the graphical rendering to the target tool importing the XMI. This is why we don't see it in high use, though we do support it.

Our team is currently in transition process from PowerDesigner to ERwin. I have performed evaluation for both Meta Integration (which is part of the ERwin distribution for Standard and Workgroup licensing) and Reischmann Informatik.
