Grand Kallé, L'auteur du tube Indépendance Cha-cha fut un des pionniers de la musique moderne africaine.

Indépendance Cha Cha est une chanson créée le 20 janvier 1960 par Joseph Kabasele, alias Grand Kallé et l'African Jazz. Elle célèbre l'indépendance de la République démocratique du Congo, ancien Congo belge, le 30 juin 1960.

Joseph Kabasele wa Tshiamala, né le 16 décembre 1930 à Matadi, RDC est mort le 11 février 1983 à Paris. Plus connu sous le nom de «Grand Kallé», il est un musicien congolais (RDC), chanteur et chef de groupe, considéré comme le père de la musique congolaise moderne. Sa carrière s'est particulièrement développée au sein du groupe de rumba africaine et de cha-cha-cha, Grand Kallé et l'African Jazz, le groupe le plus populaire de l'époque et qui a notamment vu passer dans ses rangs le saxophoniste Manu Dibango et les chanteurs Tabu Ley Rochereau et Pepe Kalle.

En 1960, il a fondé son propre label, Surboum African Jazz, qui a notamment produit le TP OK Jazz de Franco Luambo et permis de diffuser des enregistrements de qualité vers les marchés occidentaux.

Il est enterré aux cimetières de la Gombe à Kinshasa.

ASORECO, ABAKO, CONAKAT, CARTEL, FRONT COMMUN, MNC, PDC, UGECO, ABAZI and PSA were the Congolese political parties that participated at the Round Table. African Jazz was the Musical Band which originally performed the "Independence Cha-cha". Jean Bolikango, Paul Bolya, Moise Tshombe, Albert Kalondji, Cleophas Kamitatu, Essandja and Mbuta Daniel Kanza were leaders of political and/or separatist movements in Congo. Patrice Lumumba was the first prime minister of the independent Congo (assassinated in January 1961) and Joseph Kasavubu was the first President of the Congo.
