Remote participation in IGF 2008
Idea taken from Vladimir's comments on Intgovforum, at Suggestions on Interactivity :
Online space
- The easiest way of the remote participation are Web2.0 tools, including forums, wikis, hypertext comments on proposed documents, etc.
- The Announcement space should be given online, allowing each player/organisation to present the achievements and plans within 700-1000 words
- A team of people should be in charge of planning and implementing the online discussion fora – which would involve both the people present at the IGF and those accessing remotely
- The team would also be in charge of making digests or picking out the key inputs and idea introduced online and presenting at the IGF sessions (though the participants themselves will already be encouraged to use some idea during their performance)
Diplo is in best position to coordinate with IGF secretariat for hypertext comments on documents posted by IGF secretariat. Probably it may require a team of moderators to see comments and approve for public view- Diplo students in India can be roped in by NIXI. Key factor is response by IGF Sectt.
IGF secretariat to agree. Host country (India) will provide the required bandwidth and other resources. Only main hall activity to be telecast?
Does not require much resources. Team of moderators may be needed to quickly go thru "calls" and allow some through, which will be projected on the screen.
Questions sent by email in advance are also an easy option.
Further addition: Allow Audio or Video calls
Moderation by time delay may be difficult. Discuss further.
IGF Secretariat has to agree. Diplo in best position to execute, given its prior experience. Host country/NIXI will make bandwidth available. For Indian Media, this may be a dramatic event and will definitely result in huge coverage of event.
Maybe people can post their questions on YouTube in advance or at anytime, like what is being done for http://www.youtube.com/futureinternet This coupled with webcasting can itself be quite "interactive" for remote participation, if other items do not work out. A Channel on YouTube could be opened up, or Diplo's Channel can be used; or people can post videos and intimate by email.
I agree for time and for agenda.
