I’m very happy to share that our workshop #53 "Leveraging the Internet in Environment and Health Resilience" has been officially accepted for the 20th Annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which will be held in Oslo, Norway, from 23 to 27 June 2025. I received confirmation today from the UN IGF Secretariat, with the following key points:

• Due to a tight overall schedule, the session has been shortened to 75 minutes instead of the originally planned 90.

  • We will go ahead with organising the workshop;

  • We can meet the hybrid format requirement, which includes having at least three onsite participants, one of whom must serve as the onsite moderator.

• The session page is open for editing until 9 May, so we can still refine the session description, speaker details, and logistics: 

The workshop was well received by MAG evaluators, who praised the diverse speaker lineup and strong alignment with the programme's sub-theme. Thank you for submitting workshop #53 Leveraging the Internet in Environment and Health Resilience, to be considered for the 20th Annual IGF Meeting, hosted by Norway from 23 to 27 June 2025.

The Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) has reviewed all submitted workshop proposals. Following this review, we are pleased to inform you that your proposal was accepted for the IGF 2025.

Kindly note that, due to a compact schedule, the MAG has decided to shorten the session from 90-minute to 75-minutes.

Hybrid format of the IGF 2025
As you know, the IGF 2025 will be hosted in a hybrid format. In this regard, we would like you to reconfirm by responding to this email before 30 April 2025 that:

·       You will still organize the workshop; and

·       You are able to meet the hybrid format requirement, which is to have at least three speakers onsite, including the onsite moderator. Organizers are also expected to attend a training/orientation session on hybrid modalities and other aspects of session management that will take place beginning of May. The exact date and time, as well as the virtual link will be sent to organizers in due course.

For information and transparency purposes, we have also included below this message the comments on the proposal left by MAG members during evaluation; these may be helpful in your further planning of the session (*Kindly note the comments or any actions you wish to take on them have no bearing on the status of your session, which is accepted and will be scheduled in the IGF 2025 programme upon your confirmation).

Edits of selected workshop submissions
Selected workshop submissions is reopened for editing so that organizers can add or modify details for publication in the schedule. Please make final changes on your IGF session page, if any, by Friday, 9 May 2025, CoB. Content will then be uploaded for publishing on the interactive scheduling App.

The importance of diversity in IGF sessions and discussions is a crucial factor, including diversity of stakeholder representation, gender, age, geographic area, and disability. While you finalize the line-up of speakers for your session, we encourage you to be mindful of these diversity criteria and remind you that at least two speakers should be of a different gender from the rest of the speakers.

Feedback Notes from MAG Evaluators

 

This is a well thought session, with a diverse set of speakers and relevant policy questions. How the recommendations and discussions will be able to meaningfully shape policy in specific contents could be more adequately addressed to maximize impact, particularly concerning the tradition of this working group. I would also have liked to see more specific examples and cases where this is already happening, or where there is a specific demand that this should be happening to further strengthen the description.

Great line up of speakers and very clear proposal in terms of approach, policy questions and objectives.

Very good proposal. But there are too many speakers.

Please try to give factual information as much as possible. This will be a good learning event.

Very well written proposal, with a topic that aligns with the sub-theme of the programme. The description of the session is well developed and aligns with the policy questions and expected outcomes. While well written, the proposal has too many speakers to allow a meaningful exchange of the topic

This proposal discusses the Internet in environment and health, which fits well with this sub-theme. The content of the workshop and the engagement strategy are clearly described. The focus on policy questions is a bit broad. The speakers are indeed very diverse, and the 90-minute roundtable is probably a bit tight for 11 speakers.

It will be a 3 min presentation. Topic for you is, given the need for developing ICTs to assist with remediation of health issues for climate change, what if any security related aspects stand out for you that must be addressed ? 

E.g. climate  change  monitoring of water, air, smoke many have issues that have to be dealt with - pracrical issues. Satellites are commonly used for climate monitoring and what are the security issues? Etc. I am happy to review youg draft with you and with any other DC members one on one.

The Q and A at the end will bring up issues. A few weeks before the session we will have a joint call to run our points by the others which will be interesting and we can then tune up the content as well. 

Jorn if there is data on sharing information from satellites or between jurisdictions it will be interesting to hear of from a privacy or IP perspective. What is the global data commons for climate data ? I know of lot of collab for earthquakes and tsunamis for human life protection. Etc. Health, wellness and quality of life...

In terms of scheduling a planning call: while I’m personally available at both 7am PST (14:00 UTC) and after 18:00 UTC, it seems these time slots don’t overlap for both Amali and Henrietta. I have prepared four slides for the opening of the session and my statement. I would like to point to the positive impact of internet, data collection and AI in health but also to threats from vulnerabilities to possibilities to introduce and increase discrimination of population groups.

Happy new year!

We already had a planning call in the fall for 2026. This call was put out to the membership. So we are already planned.

Keep these ideas for 2027 and review the plan fall 2026 will all. 

If you are interested in hosting intersessional activities, we are open to suggestions and you would have to organize the event with Yao, who is familiar with the process. Pick a topic and let me know. 

We currently have the following plan

Eurodig proposal for June is agriculture 

Wsis proposal for July is bionic eye

IGF proposal for October - topic open tba

Intersessional - control systems Feb

Let me know your intersessional topic of choice.

We will not change the website this year 2026. It will remain status quo. You are welcome to write for our DC book.

Thank you for the feedback. I may have missed the specific updates (months and plans) on the website. If someone can redirect me, I would be grateful. I checked and I could not find them. I may be looking in the wrong place.

As stated, they are only suggestions, not to necessarily make changes or even to the website. I am not sure I will be available to join the call in January but I'd try to make the time.
