Apart from the big movies releasing every year, several films don't see the light of day. No, we aren't just talking about small budget films that easily get scrapped. We are specifically talking about movies with big budgets. Here are some films that were announced with much excitement and anticipation, but later were shelved.
Shuddhi: Karan Johar's project, Shuddhi, had Kareena Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan playing the lead characters. However, both the actors eventually backed out leaving the film stranded. The hunt for new lead actors began, several actors were approached, and Salman Khan was finalised as the male lead. Sadly for KJo, he too walked out of the project. Later, it was heard that Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt were signed for Shuddhi, but there was no confirmation. Eventually, the movie got stacked. Shuddhi was suppose to release in Diwali, this year, had everything gone per plan.
Koochie Koochie Hota Hai: This was the animated version of the blockbuster movie, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The movie was meant to be a three dog love story about, including several other animals in supporting roles. Dharma production released a trailer of the project, but the film never released.
Munna Bhai Chale Amerika: After two Munna Bhai movies hitting it big, Raju Hirani was all set to come up with the third instalment of the series which would have been set in U.S.A. Though the makers released a trailer of the film, that got great reviews, soon after Sanjay Dutt was sentenced five years in jail, because of which the movie got scrapped.
Taalismaan: This was India's answer to Hollywood's Lord of The Rings. Taalismaan featured Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role, and was produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is based on the epic novel, Chandrakanta, written by Devaki Nandan Khatri in 1892. The trailer was released along with the movie, Eklavya, but the movie was later shelved for reasons unknown.
