Hey everybody,

I felt privileged to meet everybody at the iGEM Canada meeting. I think there were lots of great ideas thrown out for discussion today, and we have a large intellect base to move forward upon.

I'm thinking of pitching the idea of an "iGEM Canada Federation" to the rest of the UBC iGEM Team, but I feel like I'm lacking a "sales pitch", so I'm trying to formulate some pitches to the team. Am I correct on the following?
  • Networking for jobs + academic opportunities
  • Fundraising
  • Resource sharing network; best practices
  • Fitting into the larger iGEM framework: possibility of a cGEM to select teams to represent Canada at iGEM Worldwide Championships?
  • Curriculum for laying foundation for other teams
I think if we have other ideas, we should share them too. I'd be really glad to hear more ideas!

Cheers,
Eric

At Eric's suggestion I have posted slides for my part of the talk.
Happy recruiting!
BTW, I wouldn't even bother with the idea of regional semi-finals
unless and until HQ dumps them in our lap. It's a lot of work and at
the moment the benefits (if any) are unclear. To boot, I think they
have the potential of being contentious and divisive. That's not what
we need to be troubling with right now. As Randy himself would say,
"Don't solve problems that you don't have".
