iGEM instructors were recently sent a request for proposal (RFP) from
iGEM HQ for organizations wishing to host a regional iGEM instructors
workshop in the Spring. This is an important opportunity for iGEM
Canada to grow together as an organization and to demonstrate the
capacity for bigger things (such as e.g. regional quarter finals,
hosting the jamboree...) This thread is a clearing house for
information about who is/may be proposing to work on this RFP, who is
willing to help and generally what needs to be done to make this
happen. From my contact with iGEM HQ I believe that our friends at
Alberta Ingenuity may be working on an RFP. I am attempting to
confirm this. If so, I think the west is a great choice of venue -
not the least because it is a lot closer for our western teams. If
anyone has information to share about this or other activities related
to iGEM this year please make them known on this site.

Another option that has been discussed previously is a workshop either before or after the Canadian Society of Microbiologists meeting at McMaster, which takes place June 14-17.

The CSM has agreed to waive registration fees for the CSM meeting itself to any iGEM team members, and there will be opportunities for poster presentations. One advantage of this venue is that it should increase the visibility of iGEM within the Canadian microbiology community. Some decisions need to be made rather quickly, however, to ensure a spot for iGEM.

Hi Trevor, I will present this idea to the Toronto team. I am sure
the team would be interested in attending. Perhaps if there are other
teams who would be interested they could make themselves known here.
My sense is that this meeting is a) too late for an instructors
workshop and b) more suited to a regional meeting including all team
members rather than only the instructors. Perhaps while still being
open to attendance by all iGEM teams, this venue would be a suitable
location for an oGEM event?
