I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I love the new Gmail app. Works awesome. My only problem is that it doesn't sync emails (I don't receive any new notifications when new emails arrive, I have to manually click refresh in the app which is annoying) when I'm on Mobile Data. When I'm on Wifi I receive notifications almost instantly. I've searched on Google Help but couldn't find anything.

Just found this thread and it helped me solve the same issue (gmail not syncing on mobile data) on my Galaxy S3. Under settings/data usage/gmail I found that 'restrict background data' was ON. Just for gmail, not globally. Not sure when or how that got checked, but it may have been that way out of the box since my gmail has never synced on mobile data, even with a factory wipe.

my problem was that "google play services" was restricted over cellular network so my emails only synced when i had wifi. Under settings/data usage/google play services...turn data restriction off. This solved my issue.

Even after this if you have a problem, then:1. Made sure that the Data restriction is OFF for your specific app or is OFF in general.2. Your Data is switched ON and has correct APN configured.3. Your Background Data usage is set to enable for the specific apps.

But finally with this site I come up with the APN reset solution. I did it and also I have found that google services had the check mark ON for restrict background data. Setting/data usage/google services

I believe I have read and tried all solutions in the community but still cannot sync gmail across devices. All apps up to date, OS up to date, IMAP enabled, signed out and back in again on all devices, deleted the mailbox on all devices then reinstalled yet when I delete an actual letter in gmail using my phone, my Mac mini and Mac air still show the letter as new. My inbox is flooding.

This is still a huge problem for me as only my phone is syncing properly with gmail. iPad and MacBook do not. All worked perfectly fine until about a month ago . I have tried a bunch of fixes but nothing working .Please let me know what you find out - I would VERY much appreciate it!!

I have 3 gmail accounts. I am signed in on all 3 of them on my iphone 13 pro max, iPad pro and MacBook pro. All devices are up to date. ONE of my 3 gmail accounts has a syncing problem: Details. If I work on my MacBook on that one problematic account, e.g.. if I write an email, save an email in drafts or delete an email, it DOES sync to my iPad and iPhone. the opposite does NOT happen however. e.g. if I work on my iPad and/or iphone, it does NOT sync to my MacBook. So my MacBook "talks" to my other 2 devices but my other 2 devices do not communicate with my MacBook. Apple support spent an hour with me yesterday and couldn't figure it out. Should I be reinstalling that problematic gmail account?? Any other suggestions?

On my recently updated iPhone (Dec. 2023) iPhone does not show PUSH as an option for any email account except iCloud. All others have Fetch only, and they do not show the range of servers that will be fetched (drafts, sent, inbox etc). I wonder if this has to do with Workspaces. Even on a PC, one is unable to drag content from one Workspace to another, they are isolated islands of content.

depends on where things were broken. for me it was my iphone and 99% of my email management is on my iphone. so everything i deleted on iphone did not get deleted. as a result, Mac and Web were "out of Sync". so once i deleted and reinstalled, i had hundreds of unread emails.

It seems IOS updates sometimes reset this to "automatically" which even indicates right there that it will only fetch new data when on WiFi and plugged into power. That's one reason it won't resync with Gmail. When set to manual, when you open the mail app or drag down to refresh the inbox, it's manually syncing and will do it properly.

In iPhone go to settings > in password and accounts > click on add account you can select the desired account it could be gmail , enter gmail address and password and sign in it will prompt to check calendar , mail , notes , slide the box of it the apps data will start syncing .

The mails from Mac / iPhone will sync and take time ( the fastest way is sync complete data ) they will be mirrored , you delete a mail from Mac it deletes in iPhone , make sure all the mails should be read ( no blue dots on each mail message ) Mark emails as read or unread in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

I am afraid it's going to take deleting your gmail account and re-installing it. I'm afraid to do it alone- I was going to go ask for help at the Genius Bar but my son says he'll walk me through it. wish me luck

Hi. Im not sure if this already has a solution if it would help anyone. What i did. Open Gmail App > Tap on you profile icon > Manage accounts on this device > tap on the slide button > Done > Sign in > tap on the slide button > Done.

I tried to login to another Gmail account and cleared the data & cache under Manage applications. Ever since then my Gmail isn't loading. When I click on the Gmail widget, it comes up with a black screen - the header says 'Waiting for sync; and another across the middle of the screen that says 'Your email will appear shortly' .

go to settings - - > data synchronisation and see if the Google Mail box (under the Synchronise with Google Mail section) is checked...if not, click on it and you should see the sync icon working..wait for it to finish and then check the gmail app to see if the emails have downloaded...If you leave it checked, gmail will autosync according to whatever frequency you have picked but if you leave it unchecked everytime you open the gmail app you will need to refresh manually to get the emails...hope this helps...

So many thanks with all the great responses, I have been messing with different memcache setups and various things in this install, so will go for another clean install and check the outlook.com then try gmail@work again.
Prob have to do some reading as its not a @gmail.com domain but uses gmail.

Also just as a trial not done any of the database or php config its all default php7.0
No # Header always set Strict-Transport-Security "max-age=15768000; preload" as you will see its remarked out.
No mem cache or redis either, I did have redis only as a distributed mem cache as it complained like hell but that was just another trial.

Connected straight away and the mail app is very much like the PDF viewer, excellent app, really good.
The initial sync took about 30 secs, the initial swirl to open inbox about 5 and the current message 10 secs max.

Hey Stuart, i was having similar troubles, as i use two step verification on my google account. The way that i got the nextcloud emailing feature to work was to make an app specific password for my nextcloud server by going to my google account settings and adding the application. Google then creates a password, which i used for the nextcloud server login (while keeping my typical username credentials the same). i hope this works for you too.

Also if you are sane and maybe just use a normal landscape monitor, it would be great if the mail app could buffer a page of emails, so it is one page in front.
To scroll down to the bottom of the emails and then grab the next page makes the mail app quite slow to use, but that is only a small quibble.

Here are the steps I documented to configure the NextCloud eMail app to work with GMail. I had similar issues on multiple GMail accounts, and these various scenarios helped me work through them. Hopefully they will help you.

I have the same issue, impossible to connect to gmail.
I have less secure app enable, simple password, imap is open.
It should work, but it doesnt, someone is able to make it work with gmail or is it not possible ?

If you use Gmail as your primary email app, you might want to sync it with other email accounts or apps to access all your messages in one place. Syncing your Gmail app can help you manage your emails more efficiently, avoid missing important messages, and save time switching between apps. In this article, you'll learn how to sync your Gmail app with other email accounts or apps on your Android or iOS device.

Before you sync your Gmail app with other email accounts or apps, you need to choose your sync settings. These settings control how often your Gmail app checks for new messages, how much data it uses, and how it handles notifications. To access your sync settings, open your Gmail app, tap the menu icon, and then tap Settings. Tap your account name and then tap Sync frequency. You can choose from various options, such as Automatic (push), Every 15 minutes, Every 30 minutes, and so on. You can also toggle on or off the options for Sync Gmail, Download attachments, and Notify for every message.

To sync your Gmail app with another email account, you need to add that account to your Gmail app. You can add accounts from different providers, such as Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, and others. To add another email account, open your Gmail app, tap the menu icon, and then tap Settings. Tap Add account and then tap the type of account you want to add. Follow the instructions on the screen to enter your email address, password, and other details. Once you add another email account, you can switch between accounts by tapping your profile picture or name in the top right corner of the app.

If you want to sync your Gmail app with another email app, you need to use a third-party app that supports Gmail integration. There are many email apps that can sync with Gmail, such as Spark, Edison, BlueMail, and others. To use a third-party app, you need to download it from the Google Play Store or the App Store, depending on your device. Then, you need to grant the app permission to access your Gmail account. Follow the instructions on the app to set up your Gmail account and sync your messages. You can also customize the app's features and settings according to your preferences.
