I know there are many of you waiting on a Beta of version 2 and so firstly huge apologies for the delay in adding you to the programme. We've decided to scale back the version 2 release and so removed the photo upload and folder creation so we could get that to Apple as soon as possible. This is now done and we should hear from them in a week or two.

The Beta of 2.1 that does support photo upload, and folder creation is ready, but Apple's new SDK has been slowing us down a bit while we get used to the radical new interface and some, er, bugs.

We plan to provision everyone later on Tuesday (April 5th) so if you haven't heard from us by Wednesday, please get in touch.

Sadly Apple have rejected version 2 for a breach of their iPad HIG (human interface guidelines). I could possibly argue the case with them, but having spoken with them before there's probably not a lot to be gained with arguing semantics with them so I'll be reworking the UI next week.

There will therefore be a delay to version 2 reaching the store ...

Out of curiosity, why did they reject?

The problem was having one popup (in this case the history panel) shown from a lower popup (the context menu with icons). Although the UIPopoverController quite happily lets you do this, the Apple HIG say you should not do it. Even though they say 'should not' rather than 'must not' (as they do in other instances), any breach of the HIG is likely to lead to a rejection ... and this is what has happened :(

I'll re-engineer things so the context menu isn't a popover, it'll take a bit of time as the popover is by far the easiest way of achieving things like this ... which is why this is sometimes an easy trap to fall into!

The good news is that from next Monday I can work on the project full time for a bit as my other major project is letting me take a sabbatical from it ... so I should be able to turn it round in a few days and re-submit to Apple fairly quickly.

One thing I’m wondering is what is the use case for the binary view option? I don’t see any end users needing such a option, but perhaps I’m not thinking out of the box. Can you explain?

The new version 2 release has just been submitted to Apple for review, hopefully the changes will meet with their approval. The new navigation features expandable table rows which works really nicely on the iPad, basically you tap a row and it expands to reveal a context menu.

I've also taken the opportunity to add in some code to the login side of things which may improve authentication for some users (although I don't think it will have any bearing on the wider issue some of you have that we're going to look at next). On looking more closely at the project source code I can see that before using GetAuthenticatedUser, the client should use GetHomeServerForUser to retrieve the correct endpoint for future requests and so this is now how the mobile client behaves.

Hopefully version 2 will get through review relatively quickly and we'll be able to crack on with adding the next set of features in.

There does not appear to be a version 2 of the tester app? Did you
mean to do this?

Yes, this is intentional as the tester app does not require an upgrade to perform the login tests. We will be considering the future for the tester app and may rework it to make it slightly more useful, or withdraw it completely , pending feedback on version 2.0.

Can anyone report whether this has fixed the login issues (self-signed
certs i believe)? I don't want to spend the 10.00 only to find out it
does not work.

If you can login at http(s)://<your-host>/simias10/iFolderWeb.asmx
then you will be fine. Try this in a web browser - it does not relate
to the mobile device.

We are now in discussions with Novell regarding the login issue that
affects some users (it is not SSL related) and hope to have more to
report on that soon.

I went ahead and downloaded it as i can login at http(s)://<your-host>/
simias10/iFolderWeb.asmx but get some weird report back (see other
post on this forum). I get error not found and am unable to login.
Tried both with http and https, same error. I can login using safari
on my phone.
