We're hard at work on version 2 now and this is targeted at iPad users who want to be able to edit documents on their device and not just view them.

This next release therefore has support for opening files in ANY application installed on your iPad that supports that particular file format. What's great about this is that if someone writes a new app to do something clever with PDF documents for example, the iFolder for iPad app will automatically be able to send the document to that app without needing a new release.

Neat eh!

Here are some screenshots that give you a sneak preview of what we are upto.

On this screen you can see the new popout context menu (activated by a long tap) and the progress bar that results from tapping on Get to download a file that isn't already on the device.

This next one shows the inline video player which will handle any media the iPad is capable of playing.

And the one you've all been waiting for ... Open in. Tapping on the Open menu item brings up a list of all the available applications for this particular file type. The list therefore depends on what applications you might have installed and the type of file you are trying to open.

That's all I have time to say right now, but I hope you like the new features!

Any idea on a release or beta?

I was hoping to get it into Beta last week but we decided that adding the photo upload functionality really then needed the ability to create new folders (as somewhere to put the photos). Having done that it became clear that we needed to be able to delete them as well - so things have been delayed due to feature creep. We're currently mulling whether to hold back the upload photo / create folder / delete item to a future release so we can get the current (and greatly improved over the current release) version to Apple as soon as possible or whether we are confident enough in the new features to get them into the current beta / next release as well.

One reason for the delay is that we hit a problem with the create folder feature when a bug client side allowed us to create a folder with no name. Unfortunately the soap layer on the server didn't prevent this and when we then deleted the rogue folder using the web interface, it actually resulted in the loss of the entire ifolder, not just a folder within it. Obviously we don't want anything like this to escape into the wild and so we're stress testing it more with unusual characters etc in the name to be sure we are encoding them all properly.

Please release v2 now and add photo and folders into v3

This app will help us sell the idea of iPhones into our organisation
as we use iFolder3

Keep developing :-)

Cheers

Agreed, this seems the best idea given the leap from V1.5. I'll prepare v2 for release over the weekend and carry on with v3 in the meantime. Feature creep, don't you just hate it when that happens ;-) ...
