Dear colleagues,

The 2023 World Day for Audiovisual Heritage will be celebrated on 27 October under the theme “Your Window to the World”. We invite you to join us by posting your events on the dedicated webpage: CCAAA - 2023 World Day for Audiovisual Heritage (thegreenid-test.fr) . This will allow us to share a wealth of stories and content from around the world. Every year, audiovisual archives and libraries globally come together on this day to celebrate their work with events that not only highlight the vulnerability of these valuable materials, but also acknowledge the often unheralded work of the institutions that protect, preserve and give access to them, ensuring their availability for future generations

This celebration is a key initiative for UNESCO and the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA) to honour audiovisual preservation professionals and institutions safeguarding our heritage. The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is one of the five founding members of CCAAA, alongside the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), the International Federation of Television Archives (FIAT/IFTA), the International Association of Sound Archives (IASA) and the International Council on Archives (ICA).

Audiovisual resources offer us a window to the world, enabling us to witness events we cannot attend, listen to voices from the past who can no longer speak, and weave stories that inform and entertain. By listening to recorded sounds and viewing images captured on film and video we can not only appreciate the richness of this culture but also learn from it.
