[IFLA-L] German Library Association publishes 'Libraries in Germany 2023'

Dear colleagues,
in 2022, public libraries in Germany were open for their users for more than 3.9 million hours. However, in many places the doors of public libraries remain closed on Sundays because the Federal Labour Law does not allow them to open with staff on Sundays.
Sunday opening is just one of many issues that libraries in Germany are currently dealing with: The topic of e-lending is still not regulated by law, the staffing situation in libraries is tightening and legal regulation is needed for the permanent storage and publication of pseudonymised research data.
The publication "Libraries in Germany 2023", which has now been published by the German Library Association (dbv), explains the background to these and other topics and provides insights into what political demands result from this.
