Hi Everyone

I am writing to let you know that thanks to J&J and Bob Drake we have a confirmed time and place for the iFEVR meeting at the same venue as the IEPA conference in San Francisco. The meeting will take place on Friday the 12th of October between 5.30 and 7.30. The venue has limited capacity of 50 people and so we will need to ask people to email me at eo...@unimelb.edu.au in order to confirm their attendance. So far we have nearly half of the places taken. I am emailing the iFEVR list first but would ask that you pass this onto any colleagues interested in vocational interventions in first episode psychosis. I will be advertising more widely in the coming weeks, but wanted to give you all a chance to reserve a place first as you have had an ongoing interest. If you emailed me in the last few weeks I will have included your name on the reserved list.

In other news the Federal Parliament in Australia has released a report of an inquiry by the House Standing Committee on Education and Employment into workforce participation of people with mental illness. It is a good report that covers stigma, the importance of education and the pros and cons of the welfare and disability employment systems. Happily the final recommendation of the report is as follows:

Recommendation 15
The Committee recommends that the Commonwealth Government explore ways, in partnership with the states and territories through COAG, to support Individual Support and Placement (ISP) and other service models that integrate employment services and clinical health services.

Apart from getting IPS around the wrong way it is a good step forward. If it might be of use to anyone advocating for reform in their country, the full report is available here

http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/House_of_Representatives_Committees?url=ee/mentalhealth/report.htm

And the speech of the Chair tabling the report in Parliament is here
http://www.rishworth.com.au/a/speeches/workwanted.pdf

I hope that as many of you as possible will be able to come to the meeting in San Francisco and we can continue to share what we are up to and move vocational recovery in first episode psychosis along a bit.

Kind regards

Eóin

Hi Eoin,

unfortunatly I will not be able to come to IEPA in San Francisco this time
and therfore will not be able to attend the iFEVR meeting. I will become chief psychiatrist of an academic hospital in Berlin (Vivantes
Klinikum am Urban, academic hospital of the Charite - Universitätsmedizin
Berlin) starting from 01. of November and will be very buisy to get it all
organized. Therefore unfortunately I had to decide not to go. Anyway, I am still intersted in iFEVR meetings and hope to make to the next meeting.

best wishes Andreas
