Hi Everyone!
To the students of you: Happy almost FDOC! I bet you’re all absolutely stoked to read the syllabus thoroughly for homework before class, and then, when you get to class, read the syllabus thoroughly in class.
As for us, this month is a big one for The Jackson Center! We have a ton going on, and I have a ton of things to invite you to. Please show out for at least one thing so you can kick the semester off in community! I feel so much more grounded in my life when I foster my intergenerational relationships, and I think y’all will too. Get grounded in stuff that matters this semester, especially before it gets super busy! Here are some things we can do together:
-
On Friday, August 22nd from 3-6pm, we will be taking part in the Good Neighbor Initiative Door-to-Door Walk!! This is an outreach project for new students moving off campus, so they can be informed and considerate neighbors to long-term residents. This is an awesome way to get involved from the very beginning of the semester, and to meet a bunch of neighbors! Please show out in this collaboration between so many town partners! We will meet at Hargraves Community Center. Sign up here please, so you can reserve your FREE delicious BOBA which is included when you participate in this event.
*One thing I want y’all to know is that Chapel Hill Police will be present at this opportunity, as they are a town partner in the Good Neighbor Initiative. I know not everyone can be comfortable around police, so I want to make sure y’all are informed about this before committing.
If you have any questions about the Good Neighbor Initiative Door-to-Door Walk, please do not hesitate to contact me ( re...@jacksoncenter.info ), Julia ( jul...@jacksoncenter.info ), and/or Molis: ( cm...@unc.edu )

We would also love a couple volunteers for this event, who can help distribute snacks and usher guests to seats. If you’re interested, please email me and sign up on Better Impact!
-
On Friday, August 29th, we’re having a POOL PARTY! This is an event at Hargraves Community Center to celebrate and honor the history of the A.D. Clark Pool at Hargraves. This is from 5:00pm-7:30pm on the 29th, and you can RSVP by calling 919-960-1670. We DO need some volunteers for this one: We need help with:

2025 is a year for the Northside Census: a biannual door-to-door data collection project that helps us analyze and inform the direction of our housing work. It’s a crucial part of what we do, and we rely on volunteers to help us do it!
We are looking for volunteers all throughout the summer and fall to help us carry out the census right here in the neighborhood. This entails knocking on neighbors’ doors, letting them know you’re with the Jackson Center, and asking them a few questions. We will provide a full training, and be there to answer any questions you may have. We can be flexible to your schedule.
If you have some availability and you’d like to get involved, please respond to this email, or email jul...@jacksoncenter.info.

Heavenly Groceries has begun opening one hour earlier than before, in order to get our guests inside out of the heat sooner. Note the time changes on Tuesdays and Thursdays! Here are your opportunities to help with Heavenly Groceries next week:
We could definitely still use some extra hands for Heavenly Groceries, especially for pickups or deliveries! If you’ve been thinking about trying it out, now’s a great time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions! As always, you can sign up for these shifts on BetterImpact or by emailing me (re...@jacksoncenter.info).

Finally, keep Friday, September 25th clear on your calendars for the Good Neighbor Initiative Community Cookout! This event is full of food, music, dancing, games, good people, and just good family-friendly fun. It'll be from 5:30-8:00pm at Hargraves. Plan on it, and sign up to volunteer on Better Impact!
