Several months ago, in connection to the Net4Change conference, there
was a discussion about trying to set up a safe haven for (net) activists
from the MENA-region in Sweden. This to offer people in need a
possibility to get away from the turmoil but still allowing them to
continue with their struggle from a safer surrounding.

Since then the Swedish Institute and the Lund University Internet
Institute have been working to find ways to make this safe haven project
running.

I am actually quite proud to announce that we, with all our discussions
in mind, are now close to launching an academic program and scholarship
specifically targetting net/MR/democracy/etc activists from several
countries from the MENA-region. The program is called Social Innovation
in a Digital Context and allows a selected group of participants to come
to Sweden for six months on a scholarship from the Swedish Institute in
cooperation with Lund University, which will provide academical
education and mentoring to support and strengthen the efforts and
projects that the participants are involved with while they are in Sweden.

Please read the enclosed information to get a brief overview of the program.

BUT, and this is important, WE NEED YOUR HELP! We need to find potential
participants that somewhat match the candidate profile to make sure that
our group of about 15 participants creates a good working ground for the
activists coming here.

Please, could you _ASAP_ scout your networks and fill out the applicant
recommendation form for each and everyone. Together we have the
possibility to give some well-deserving activists a chance to catch a
breath, network and deepen their insterest and projects.

This needs to be done quite soon, as we aim to have a first selection
process already by next week. It would be great if you could help us out!

Any questions regarding this are to be directed to me. Most of the
things concerning this program are quite public.

Best,
Marcin
